Maybe Les wants Thibs and he knows he won't come here without control of personnel?

i'm just reminded of JB on the bench to open the POR series sitting there watching our guys "*****in hyperventilatin out there"

this was mchale's righthand man all throughout our innumerable collapses, so even if he has the players' attention, i'm not convinced he has the coaching acumen to fix our many problems besides just effort

Leslie Alexander on JB Bickerstaff: "For the season he's going to be the interim coach. We'll worry about coaching searches later"

This is like between a river and a cliff.
On one hand I'm happy that Brooks is not interested (LMAO! What does this guy think of himself? Really delusional to turn down this opportunity) on the other hand I think JB is going to be same old same old or possibly even worse.

If the players really respected him they wouldn't have tune him out in defence.

At least we escaped the bullet of tying ourselves for years to Brooks.

Just saw that. Guess we've got our guy for the next 71 games. And hopefully at least a handful more.

My fear is that Bickerstaff doesn't have enough base in his voice to be a head coach.
He's got that whole frog in the throat thing going on.

But I'm hopefull that someone sitting over there and seeing all the mistakes McHale made can take that and learn from it. Rockets need a fresh new perspective on things.
Maybe Bickerstaff ends up not being the guy....I don't care really....At this point I'm just happy McHale is gone. I am freaking pumped.

I've always liked how angry Bickerstaff sounds in halftime interviews when the team is playing like ass. We'll see. Obviously, they made a move on McHale before having someone else in place, so it's a no-brainer that J.B. will be coaching while they shop around. He's got nearly a whole season to prove himself, lucky guy.

However, the definition of "respect" is important here. If they players just "like" him, that's not going to do it. If the players have reason to fear him if they screw up, then we might getting somewhere. Depends on J.B. and depends on the players. A good coach won't put up with crap, and good players under him will understand that and accept that it's part of making the team better.

If J.B. tries to impose order and his players resist, get rid of the players. If J.B. tries to be buds with them without demanding nothing but the best, get rid of him. If both coach and team are limp-dicked about this whole arrangement, start chopping from both sides.

Sounds like Les is finally ready to think this way. Hope he stays angry and distrustful. His team deserves it.

    Good

I am not interested in Brooks coaching the team and am willing to give JB a chance. That is all.

I am going to be enraged if the Lakers find some way to reel in Durant and Westbrook.

And thank god for that. Good thing is Harden would be familiar with his 4th quarter offense. ISO, ISO, ISO, ISO

If Durant was going to sign with the Lakers Brooks would be the last reason.
It would be because he likes the spotlight and doesnt' give a damn about winning. Not because of freaking Brooks.

If the Rockets' woes continue and the Lakers managed to pull that off, I'd be done with basketball.

Just the other day when I mentioned how this situation would play out I was laughed and mocked out of the GARM with people saying that a high profile coach would shy away from accepting a mid-season job offer, and I wouldn't necessary call Brooks high profile. Folks gloated that JVG, Brooks, Thibs, whoever would leap at the chance to coach 2 superstars in Houston. True.... but not in this particular tumultuous situation. Next Summer sure.

Coaching changes are not as easy as you think folks. You don't just snap your fingers and Phil running the triangle is happening the next game, or Adelman running the corner offense, etc. These high profile guys want to implement their system with a full training camp, and want to be able to hire "their guys" for all the supporting staff.

You "Fire McHale' you are still likely going to get whatever McHale was doing the rest of the year. What you do get in return is a big warning sign from the owner that says "losing is not acceptable here" and more than anything that's what we got today for good reasons from Les. Sometimes (and in this case I think especially true) that works better than switching from Read and React to the Triangle, or the Triangle to Princeton, etc etc.

McHale, Thibs, Brooks, JB, etc.... doesn't really matter. What matters is Les taking a stand to say this is not acceptable to him, the city, and the fans. Kudos Les.
