You didn't, which is why I asked to clarify since you seemed to be implying that you did not like the decision.
It was needed tbh. Lol at Barkley snd others playing up the conf finals thing as further proof that this was a bad move when b4 the firing the collective view was that the team lucked it's way there due to hero ball fro beard and jsmoove and a Herculean choke-job by the clips.
This just in, my sources confirm woj's sources. McHale is fired. I'm a little sad, but I know he deserves it based on how this team has played. Sooner better than later, but I hope Thibs comes over to help the defense.
McHale was not the problem... but in all likelihood he would never be part of the solution either. Letting him go is hard, but what concerns me is how the eff does this team move forward playing an 82 game season with an interim coach? That is just stupid.
No, McHale is not really the problem, but they cannot fire all the players so the coach is gone. McHale got the Rockets to play hard off and on, and the hope is that whoever they get to replace him will get the players to play hard. Bickerstaff isn't the answer. He has looked shell shocked a number of times. At this time the hope is that Thibs and Morey can coexist and get effort out of everyone....
But that's if we even go after Thibs. Early on I thought the only way the Rockets would fire McHale is if they had someone in hand, but reading reports it seems like they want to ride this Bickerstaff train until the end of the season. That puzzles me. At that point, save the dough and let Mac flounder for the rest of the season then fire him after Dwight resigns.
I really think those comments seen in those reports are just window dressing to make the awkward position Bickerstaff is in be as easy on him as can be expected. It would be terrible if they just came out and said he is a temporary coach while they go through a hiring process. It would make Bickerstaff's job much more difficult and distract the team. But, I would be happy to make a tip jar bet with anyone that Bickerstaff won't be the coach past the all star break, and, quite honestly, I think they have someone else by early January (hopefully sooner (unless it is Brooks, in which case I'd rather just keep BJ until the end of the year)).
Nuño should delete that tweet to be honest. That's usually how other media outlets spread false information. Ignoring the follow up tweets and all.
Well it's about time. McHale lost the team no matter if they quit on him or not. I hope they start interviewing other potential head coaches immediately, behind the scenes. I would only give JB about 5 games and if the team isn't playing at an extremely high level, I would can the entire coaching staff...they were there under McHale, so they have to prove they deserve to be kept, or let go if nothing gets better very very quickly. 5 games from now, even if we lost them all, would still give an outside chance to make the playoffs, and with a roster with this talent, anything could still happen in the playoffs. I would love Les to shell out some big money to put together an ALLSTAR coaching team made up of the coaches that have been mentioned as possible head coaches: Thibs - JVG - Brooks - Coach K - Elie - Cassell - Murphy - Mark Jackson etc. I would love to see any 4 or 5 of those guys come together to form a dream coaching team. Would Les be willing to shell out enough money to do it? Would the other's be willing to be an assistant under whomever was chosen to be the head coach? I really wouldn't care who the head coach was as long as all of his assistants were top names with successful NBA experience. Thanks to McHale for what he did do for us and the WCF last year whether it was because or in spite of him. I wish him the best. But I'm very glad that his tenure as our coach is over.
If hiring Brooks would guarantee KD then it's a no briner but if not then don't see him as the best choice personally
I'm mixed between sadness and shock, Kevin seems a great person and I am sad to see him go... But we stink and he is not a good coach
I disagree. Why get a marginally better (debatable) coach just for the sake of acquiring (BIG HYPOTHETICAL) KD? As good as KD is, it's not worth it in my opinion. The Rockets as constructed are a more than adequate talent-rich foundation to win it all. Finding/Hiring the right coach to bring order and accountability is paramount.
I wouldn't go as far as saying I don't like it -- I'm willing to take a wait-and-see approach. Les' statement re: not being afraid to get rid of guys who aren't giving their all does make me feel better. My biggest fear was that this would be construed by the players as them being let off the hook, but it's clear that isn't Les' plan.
I went on fb because i follow nba pages and HR. It is mind boggling how misinformed everyone is in the comment section. These people obv do not know about clutchfans and how much we know or how much we are obsessed. They believe we made a incredible mistake and that only the players are the problem. SMH
For the record, I thought he should have been fired after the 1st round embarrassment against the Blazers, but he seemed to do a good job last year. I also don't think JB is the answer, hopefully he does okay. I'm afraid that not much will change and we will continue to flounder over the next 10 games, I wonder how quick Morey and Les's trigger will be if that's the case.
This was inevitable from the moment McFail was hired. Some of us, including myself, tried to tell the rest of you that this wasn't going to work, but we were shouted down by others saying that "the players like McFail" and "he turned in a COY season last year." In the end, those that defended McFail were wrong and those of us that criticized the hire were right. There's no other way around it. However, this should not absolve Maury of blame. He not only hired McFail, but he also extended his contract. Maury is the architect of this team. From the coaching staff to every player on the roster to the so-called offensive "philosophy" and "system" that's been implemented. It is all on him.
