Very true. The only bright spot in the last few years was Linsanity. Players like Melo, Stoutemire, Kidd, Baron Davis, Tyson Chandler...none of these guys could do it. It took a guy like Phil Jackson and a top 5 draft pick to finally reach that standard. High praise indeed.
