Can't say I disagree. Young or not, a lot of the traits we thought we were getting with Charlie Strong team have been nonexistent.
hah, maybe now, but you obviously haven't paid much attention to Major's career, or why he's changed jobs so often.
That's fair, and there's going to be a proverbial "Come to Jeesus Meeting" with some of the heavy hitters in the next couple of months. Nobody is happy. The only things I disagree with him on are his love of the Cubs and the stupid amount of Crayola colors he has in his signature, but that's his fault.
I was at the UH game. Applewhite's play-calling was a big reason why UH fell behind for the first 3 quarters. My guess is it was Herman who made the adjustments and not Applewhite, but I'm not sure.
Nobody is happy but we'll see if anything comes of it. Still thinking Charlie gets his 3rd year. If a change were to be made, I would think you would have to have a proven upgrade all but signed and ready to go. As much as I like Herman, I don't see us taking another flier this early on in his career. But if Chip Kelly were interested, I think you throw everything you can at him and make him say no.
I agree with this. If they are going to let Strong go this year, they will likely go for a 100% proven coach - and they better know he will say yes before they make the move. Otherwise, you risk getting another guy you might want to fire in 2 years.
It doesn't look like the Longhorns are doing very well on the recruiting front so far this year. I know they have a few top recruits, and there is still time left to pull in some more good players. But if it appears that Strong is going to have a very weak recruiting class, how would that impact his chances to remain at UT? Could it be that a poor recruiting year is the last straw?
Nah. Recruiting classes and rankings are fun for us fans but doubt the administration is looking at Rivals to help guide their decisions. With that said, things weren't looking much better this time last season and Strong closed with a Top 10 class. None of it matters if you can't coach them up though.
Exactly. With every embarrassing loss, he moves further behind A&M, TCU and Baylor in the eyes of top recruits. 18-year-old kids gravitate toward what's flashy and Texas under Strong certainly isn't flashy or exciting. Mack left the program in a deep hole, but Strong hasn't shown that he's able to dig the program out of it yet. I think he gets one more year after beating OU. We're very likely to lose the next two games and that will be the only silver lining so far in two years.
The embarrassing losses also lead to speculation about Strong's job status which further buries him in the mind of recruits.
Dump him now, drop a load of cash in Kelly's bank account and let's get this started already. Over it, sick to ****ing death of it. I no longer even care to watch, and when alums quit caring that's bad. REAL bad. Come here to see we're losing recruits to freaking Baylor? That is embarrassing. Texas should not be losing highly regarded recruits to anyone, let alone in state institutions besides aTm due to the SEC bias. Flush him now.
While I'm sure they're going to give him another year, they absolutely shouldn't. There's nothing to gain. Odds are that 2016 won't be much different than 2015. Mediocrity would be the best case scenario. There's no point in waiting another year to fall even further behind the other schools in this state. Every other team is making strides (except TX St. who seem to get worse by the season). Follow the lead of your uniform supplier and Just Do It.
UT & TAMU need be friends, this Baylor/TCU nonsense has been going on for too long. Y'all get Briles or something.
The reason I brought up the recruiting, was that if Strong was on pace a have a top ten recruiting class, then that would be reason to have hope for the future. But if the recruiting is as much of a disaster as what's happening on the field, then I see no reason to keep him.
