Lol. Given that Kimbrel has 3 years before FA and Chapman only 1, I'd think the market would be decent bit less than this for Chapman. Stros could go huge and ask about both him and Frazier (I can dream, right?)
Trade with Reds We should go all in and try to get both Chapman and Frazier from the Reds. A package of Tucker, Velasquez, Carter, and Lowrie + prospects would be fair. Then, just resign Sipp and Kazmir and go to work.
I'm hoping for a Chapman trade followed by a Lucroy/KRod deal personally! Those two + Gregerson in the pen would be ridiculously awesome.
Years of control are much more valuable when the guys are not making full contracts yet. The extra years of Kimbrel probably aren't a big of a value as most would think, even if the contract was up it isn't like he would be in for a huge raise. Sure, you would have to deal with him against others on the open market, but it's not like having the Springers and Keuchels and Correa's of the world where all those years of control are at huge bargains Chapman's one year would also come with draft pick compensation if you couldn't sign him, assuming you got him in the offseason and not during the season. I think the return would be similar, I also think the Astros would be very smart to make a strong move for Chapman, he could very well be the piece that puts us over the top
Couple interesting Wagner facts (courtesy of @theaceofspaeder): Wagner had a career 11.920 K/9, ranking 1st on the all-time K/9 list among pitchers with 500+ IP. -- Billy Wagner struck out 33.2% of the batters he faced during his career. Best in MLB history. -- Billy Wagner had 228 more more K than baserunners allowed during his career. The best differential in baseball history: Billy Wagner +228 Craig Kimbrel +215 Aroldis Chapman +198 Kenley Jansen +197 Koji Uehara +114
i like how you forget to mention any of the post season stats. dude choked in the playoffs. had a era of over 8 in the playoffs. lmao
Chill. I'm just throwing out interesting Wagner stats, seeing that this is an ASTROS board. BTW, Chapman, in 4.2 career postseason innings: 5H, 4R, 4:2 K:BB. Wagner in his first 4.2 postseason innings: 2H, 5R, 7:0 K:BB.
I love how you forget to mention that only 1 out of those 4 runs were earned. keep on trolling bro you're doing a great job at it
Another troller???? Wow, we have a police forum member here, i thought Little Beard was the worse, well, he continues to be, you are second, lol
Freeman would be nice at 1B. I wonder how expensive. Would a package of Reed, Appel and Musgrove get the Braves talking?
Tyler White 2-5 tonight with 2B and HR. 325/.451/1.017 ops He leads the team in just about every offensive category, except steals.
If the Braves didn't jump on that deal they would be crazy. Way too much to give for Freeman. Freeman is paid pretty close to FMV. I think Reed will be as good as Freeman, but paid way less.
I wouldn't give that much up for Freeman. He is a very solid player that can work the count and defend well. However he is owed a lot of money for a number of years at market value. There is no way I give up Appel and Reed for Freeman under his contractual terms.
He is actually leading the entire Dominican league in Hits, 2B, RBI, OBP and OPS. On the other hand Tyler Heineman hitting .204 and Jonathan Villar .214
He's more than a "solid player;" he ranks 7th the past three years among all 1B in WAR, and 35th overall (ahead of Cespedes, Cruz, Zobrist, Puig, Altuve...) His deal is big - but it covers his prime years; it ends when he's 31. That's a different but still vital kind of financial flexibility.
Okay.... So the last 3 years he is in the top 25% of first basemen.... I wouldn't even have a major issue with the Astros trading for him but I am not giving up Reed and Appel for a player that is paid inline with his production.
20%, technically (33 1B have totaled at least 1,000 PAs). And he's 7th in OPS+, too (140). (Bagwell's career OPS+, btw, was 149. Just sayin'...) Of the top seven, Freeman is the youngest by two years. Quite a few posters would love the Astros to pursue Chris Davis, who is three years older and would likely command a similar deal (6/$118.5MM). Here are their last three years: Chris Davis .252/.347/.544/.891; OPS+ 140 Freddie Freeman .296/.385/.478/.863; OPS+ 140
