Political points or not, Obama has failed terribly and his misjudgment of the situation IS demonstrated by making a statement like this. He also previously called them a "junior varsity team". Whether one could have waited a day or two to make this thread is a separate issue, as is how much Obama could have done, considering the situation he inherited, but he has clearly been misjudging and mismanaging the situation in the Middle East.

You can apparently not distinguish between "placing the blame for hundreds of deaths" and "questioning a politician's competence for gravely misjudging the strength of an enemy". They are not the same.

Well, I'll help you narrow it down, you know it wasn't me because I'd let you know if I gave you neg rep so you could tell your kids about it and use it as water cooler conversation at work.

 

There's a fundamental, philosophical misunderstanding of ISIS among Western governments. This misunderstanding has resulted in completely ineffective foreign policy in regards to Islamic terrorism. It is absolutely critical that we treat terrorism with extreme prejudice as it is a threat to free societies everywhere. The Obama administration is blameworthy for its nonchalant attitude toward Islamic terrorism (even refusing to call it that).

Misjudging your enemy's strength over years and therefore not taking the appropriate steps in dealing with your enemies usually contributes to them gaining more strength.

Therefore ascribing blame to Obama for a tragedy. Don't run logical circles around yourself. In any case, I am done reading the posts in this thread for tonight, too much hatred and finger pointing during a time of tragedy that has not even seen its own end.

 

I am not ascribing direct blame to Obama for this. The blame goes to the people who committed the murders, and to the people who poisoned them with a murderous ideology, and to the ideology itself and those who defend it. But consistently underestimating an enemy usually just happens to lead to the enemy getting stronger - that's a simple fact.
