The jury is still out on Clowney, hopefully he's going to stay healthy for the rest of the season and we'll be able to see how he's going to really perform. But two players can't save an entire team, especially if they only play on the defensive side of the ball. If it were two great offensive players things may be different with this teams record.
So the Texans had 2 first picks in the entire draft and had David Carr and Clowney. The Raiders used to picks in the same draft to end up with Derek Carr and Mack. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TEXANS!
No.... they were #1 picks in the entire draft. The Texans had 2 #1 picks in the entire draft and they get the lesser Carr and Mrs. Clowney. The Raiders in a single draft ended up with two better players...... Mack & Carr >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Clowney & Sua Filo Take a look at that 2014 draft..... consider that the Texans had the #1 pick and were scheduled to draft first in each round and then look at what they ended up with.... and who they passed on.
I don't understand the comparison. Are you referring to the history of 1st round picks? Are you including Mario Williams and Jamarcus Russell? If you are just referring to the 2014 draft I don't understand bringing up the "lesser Carr".
I'll confess during the draft, my #1 desire was they traded down (allegedly they tried) my #2 was they drafted Clowney. It's looking like I was totally wrong. Can't dog them for what I would have done if I were in their shoes. That Sua Filo pick is indefensible though.
The Houston Texans are hoping that the combination of JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clowney become a dynamic tandem of pass rushers for the team’s defense. On Wednesday Watt was asked how it felt to have Clowney back from his most recent injury issue. JJ Watt answered the question and then went on to praise the guy who replaces Clowney when the former number one overall pick misses time. “It’s good. I think Whitney (Mercilus) played a heck of a game,” Watt told reporters Wednesday. “You look at what Whitney did out there, he had 3.5 sacks. If you give him the one where he got the facemask penalty, it’s 4.5. The guy is playing great football, so you have to give him credit.” Watt wasn’t asked about Whitney Mercilus during his media session, but praised the linebacker who was rewarded for a good season filling in for Clowney in 2014 with a new contract before the 2015 season before being moved around and used as a secondary outside linebacker to Clowney. http://houston.cbslocal.com/2015/11/12/is-jj-watt-sending-jadeveon-clowney/
I find it depressing that the Texans spent the #1 pick in the entire draft on David Carr....... many years later his brother is available, Derek Carr, and the Texans pass on him twice, and he appears to be what everyone hoped his brother would be...... so the Texans are snake bitten twice, on top of the Texans passing on Mack in round one. The 2014 draft was supposed to be one where they added talent to the team, and as it turned out, they screwed it up and passed on the most talented players. It is just very fitting that it would happen to the Texans......
I loved the Sua Filo pick. I was dreaming of "GAMES ARE WON IN THE TRENCHES! A dominant o-line will make a mediocre QB look alright." line of thinking. Texans shouldn't have built the stadium over that Indian burial ground...
Clowney was only going to be here on his rookie deal. So we may get 1 or 2 good seasons out of him and then someone will way over pay him and he'll bolt. Great value from that #1 pick.
Gosh I totally bit on the hype of JD Clowney...but he has essentially become the NFL's version of Greg Oden...smdh...This franchise really is just snake bit...
No one can say he isn't injury prone. He's had one injury after another since college. He couldn't even do much at the combine because he was injured.
Don't think this is the case. Clowney strikes me as the type of guy that will put up about 15 sacks on his last year before he becomes a free agent. Somebody will pay him some money and he'll break down again on them. Lots of talent, lack of heart.
