One other possibility and I hate to throw it out there, but I have to. Is McHale maybe emotionally down after Flip's passing? They were pretty tight, weren't they?
I mentioned this in the game thread, but does anyone know if a team has one a championship after firing their head coach mid-season?
He was given a 3 yr extension prematurely and probably feels secure b/c I don't see Les firing him and eating his contract.
The 2006 Heat are the only recent example I can think of. But that was a rare exception in that Pat Riley is one of the all-time greats and as the GM, he was very knowledgeable about his roster and wasn't some random outsider or assistant coach thrown into the fire.
Mchale takes to long to adjust to what the opp is doing. Been that way since 2014 when let LMA go for 40 back to back with no one on him. HOU was obviously getting killed on the boards but he does nothing to counter, just expecting his player to play harder to plan thats not working. Defense wont be getting any better with the small ball either. Lawson/Harden/Thornton are gonna get attacked all game
I've been a longtime defender of McHale, and mostly still am, but no one would blame Les if he decides to fire him the first morning after the Rockets drop out of the top eight. Message to Harden, don't run your mouth All Summer if you can't back it up with victories.
As it currently stands, this team is not winning the championship this year. With McHale or with a combined coaching of Phil Jackson + Popovich + Rick Carlsile. The team has some serious flaws in terms of players. I still want McHale gone ASAP but just keeping it real...
I already have. I can't imagine McHale getting fired midseason unless this team is really bad. And at that point, the season would be lost anyway. We'll probably have to underachieve(which we're easily on pace to do) and then Les and Morey will have no choice but to eat those last 2 years and hire a real head coach. I just hope the really good candidates out there don't commit to another team during the season.
huh how dude mchale is clueless, harden balled the fk out last year, if he didnt play at that level last year we wouldnt have sniffed the 2nd seed
I don't have an issue with McHale's coaching. I take more issue with the inconsistency on offense and lack of swagger this team has at times. Coaching staff is responsible for that to a large degree.
... I don't know if there is much more to defend. It's been happening, even last season. Regardless, players make this league. Our boys have some issues on both sides of the court. Some stronger guidance and methodology would be incredibly helpful at this point.
Are you serious? I'm trying to think of a time where this is not the norm? Has Mchale EVER coached? He's been **** since he's been here.
