Neither do I. No idea why Morey gave him a 3 year deal.

KJ needs the PT and coming down here to RGV will benefit him in the long run. I will go check out the first game on Friday.

Me neither. I get the upside since he's athletic as hell and has potential. Since we're a championship contender, I don't get it though. Being hard capped for a guy like him is just silly.

You might be right .... but so many scenario's where he stays put.

Next offseason he could be moved to open up cap space - KJ is a nice replacement giving you much the same skillset at less than half the cost.

Brewer could be moved this year - He's really the only non-starter , expendable player who has a substantial contract value this season.

I like the idea of sending KJ down and giving him the green light to shoot shoot shoot shoot .... and shoot again. Even if he's shooting 500 3's a day in practice , those aren't like a game situation. Those are just "muscle memory" and by now he likely gets more from "game situations."
Go get 20+ shots a game in RGV and be ready to step up in January .... when Brewer & Jones are packaged for a forward.

That's exactly what I think about the move.

It could very well be that KJ just needs more time in game situations to pick up our offense. He could use it. Honestly, he doesn't look like he knows what he's doing in our offense. He looks like he forces things instead of playing within a system. Get him time in our offense in game situations to get him ready to replace Brewer in February.

People here are so quick to write off a move like this without knowing what went into the decision. Typical of Clutchfans members these days, I suppose.

Further more, for people pining for Dekker to go to RGV, you'll get that once DMO and TJ are back and we have a healthy forward lineup. But now is not the time.

They both need to go. McDaniels needs to work on his jumper in actual game action. He also needs to work on his one on one defense which may eventually be his calling card, especially if his shot never develops. Maybe McDaniels will be ready, especially for defense by the the playoffs. Dekker also needs to work on his jumper. Dekker probably does not need as much time as KJ before returning. As the team is so deep it is hard to imagine either of them getting much playing time with the Rockets borrowing even more injuries.

Good move, KJ will benefit from actual game time.

Forgot the triple double a night waitin' to happen T-Will. McHale just never gave him a chance because he HATES rookies, ruined his career. McHale just won't play the talented guys over the scrubs he loves.

I think everyone agrees he is very athletic and has potential, otherwise he wouldn't have been given a 3-year contract.

But there are more eyes on him than just McHale's. There's a whole coaching staff watching him in practice. You can be sure they compare notes.

Of the players who have been sent to D-league only a few stick with the team. Playing there shouldn't be considered disrespecting a player's potential, but there is no way around that it means coaches want to see further development. Capela made enough progress to demonstrate in game situations at the end of last season to get time in playoff games. Nick Johnson was in the D-league along with Capela yet didn't perform as productively as Capela.

That is partly due to the position being played and partly due to the players in "front" of you at that position.. A guard has a different set of criteria to measure up to as opposed to a big; especially in a system that emphasizes the 3-point shot. Marcus Thornton is still playing because he is productive enough to be given time. It's that simple. It's not like McDaniel's hasn't been given some opportunities. And he has definitely shown flashes of productivity. There is obviously something more the coaches want to see. And it wouldn't make sense that they wouldn't tell a player why is going to the Vipers and what skills they want to see improved.

This article discusses both his potential and weaknesses. It seems pretty impartial and shows both the hope and the possibility.

This is probably true, but one would think they would at least want to up his value a bit first.

This is good for KJ. Most players that go down there and play end up being given a shot to play with the real team.

I can see why he did. It's a cheap deal for a solid prospect and it's a very tradable contract too. Sure he hasn't shown too much yet but he is the type of young player on a cheap contract that would garner some value in a trade imo.

Sending him to the D-League is an easy way to tone down that trade value

Why would sending him down to the d-league tone down his trade value? He's getting zero visibility right now. If he goes down to the d-league and starts playing very well, and/or hitting threes at a decent clip, it should help trade value. I think it's also good for his long term development. He's not going to become a better shooter sitting on the bench. He needs reps.

On the other hand, I'd be surprised if this doesn't piss him off. He goes from starting one year to playing not at all and then d-league the next. At least on the bench he can convince himself that he's just about to crack the rotation. Not saying I agree with this line of thinking, but I understand it. Any time your development isn't linear, that is to say, a slow and steady climb upward, it's frustrating. KJ certainly has had fits and starts.

I don't see the big deal. He's not in our 8-man rotation. He is at best an 8th or 9th man if he shows maturity beyond his years. Why wouldn't we send him down to RGV? We're trying to win, not develop rookies and sophomores into tradeable assets. You win with veterans for the more part.

Poor guy, Morey machine just crushed self esteem of KJ.After signing a new contract? This is going to make him feel like a pack of meat, after all he's been through.
