Just because you live in Houston doesn't necessarily mean you went to UH. The city has added about 110k people every year for the last half decade. Also, the game was on ESPN2. Not everyone has cable. The other games were on network. I'm more surprised that the TCU game didn't have higher ratings.
With the amount of alumni of schools belonging to the Big 12 in Houston, bringing in UofH does absolutely nothing to further the brand and actually lessens the piece of the pie each school receives at the end of the season. If/when the Big 12 folds, UofH has a good chance to catch on somewhere else but I don't think they will ever be a part of the Big 12.
Until the Big 12 manages to carry the Houston market, or at the very least compete with the SEC, without UT's involvement, this is simply not the case. No sense in arguing immaterial stuff about "brand strengthening", but the underlined above is not true, per comments by OU President David Boren earlier this year. The moment another P5 conference moves to invite UH, the Big 12 be at their doorstep with a fruit basket. And if they aren't, they're dumber than we all thought. Anyway, revisiting this herp and derp is not fun for anyone. Go back a few pages to read all the prior peepee games.
PACPACPAC. Big 12 might be more rewarding in the short term (increased interest, bigger crowds, etc), but the cracked foundation of the conference doesn't give me warm fuzzy feelings.
Houston ranked 24th in this weeks CFP. Memphis is 21, Navy is 20. Edit: Temple is 22. If all goes as planned and UH wins out, in addition to Temple winning out, then 3 out of the next 4 will be ranked for Houston and be critical in proving themselves and ranking higher.
No respect. At least the other rankings had them in the teens. This system is not perfect. The voters still have their biases.
One thing about Tom Herman that I think has been overlooked. When he accepted the UH job, he completed the season at Ohio, THEN moved onto UH. Compare that to Sumlin (and pretty much every other coach) who bailed on the team before their bowl appearance. Herman clearly has a different moral compass than many others.
Um. When Sumlin took the job at UH he asked that he be allowed to stay to coach Oklahoma in their BCS bowl that year. Briles is an unscrupulous turd, but the witch hunt against Sumlin is complete bunk.
But Sumlin also decided to sabotage the Championship game vs Southern Miss, lost and then packed his bag and left to TAMU - could've (should've) been a Sugar Bowl Appearance that year
Sadly, many do. Sour grapes die hard. Drives me insane that so many of our fans don't think a VERY good Southern Miss team couldn't have beat us... Oh no... It had to be sabotage! Derp. Sabotage is Art Briles actively recruiting for Baylor while receiving paychecks from U of H.
"Sabotage" isn't the word for Sumlin. However when you're interviewing multiple times for another job (one he obviously wanted) it's pretty evident that his focus wasn't entirely on UH and the task at hand and that was the USM game.
Lol honestly I make myself to believe this to feel better. I know (from a car ride with former LB that played that game) that it wasn't the issue, but if it blinds me that's the reason we lost, i'll take it
Besides that, I remember plays that the balls were dropped which could have been a long TD - justin johnson
The bias in the committee is real otherwise Ohio st would not be in there. I'm ok with that. And it could help us overcome the sos. Think about an Ohio st/Houston matchup. That's a freight train. Greg ward is a story too. That can be good tv. All that said, let's just be the last team standing and see what they do because that is a level of legitimacy that will be hard to overlook even though they are doing that now. Public pressure will get to them. This is a lot more like the heirsman race than people think. It's presidential. A media campaign will help one of the teams at the right time. Look at Iowa. Seriously. The committee is flawed.
