Totally depends on what you want with your phone. Factors to consider include the Operating System, Camera, Battery life, Screen quality, wireless carrier, updates, niche features like contactless payments, etc..

I would love for that phone (or something similar) to come to a gsm carrier. Large battery and shatter proof screen sounds very interesting. I would finally ditch using a case if my phone had a shatter proof screen.

Just buy it second hand when it comes out. All Verizon phones have unlocked GSM radios. Just make sure your carrier's LTE bands are supported.

I believe the Droid Turbo 2 is a modified version of the Moto X Play (which isn't sold in the US but is sold in Canada). They pop up on swappa every now and then.

Android for sure and on Verizon. As for everything else, Camera is most important to me, followed by battery life. I drive a lot though, and always put my phone on the car charger so battery isn't AS big a deal to me as it is to everyone else, but obviously would be good to have a good one.

That's a good idea. I"ll have to determine which bands it'll be compatible with on t-mobile. I had a Verizon G2 on t-mobile. It works and I get LTE, but data and phone connection were must more inconsistant compared to a native t-mobile phone due to the lack of some bands.

Here is a video of a reviewer trying to break this 'unbreakble' phone. It's really impressive.

Verizon Droid Turbo 2 should fit the bill.

    Your wish has come true??

    http://phandroid.com/2015/10/29/meet-the-moto-x-force-a-droid-turbo-2-without-verizon-branding/

Who knows if it will be available here in the states and I'm guessing it will be missing some bands that make it fully compatible with the likes of t-mobile or ATT. It may be functional enough. Probably missing things like Band 12 and wifi calling.

If you're ok with a phablet, the Nexus 6p is getting a lot of great reviews and ticks all of your important points. I think its at a great price point for what it provides. The Nexus 5x has been getting very mixed reviews so I'd skip that one but the 6P looks really nice. If I were in the market for a new phone, I'd really consider that one.

I personally have a Galaxy S6 which I really like but the battery life is not that great. But the camera is fantastic (still the best for any smartphone), the AMOLED screen is also still probably the best for any smartphone, and the antenna is surprisingly solid. But its not stock android and Touchwiz is still a fairly crappy skin for Android (even with its improvements this time around). But for all its faults, the camera is just too damn good for me to switch any time soon.

Also what's your price range? If you want a cheaper (but still good phone) the Moto X is $400 off contract. You'll have to do some shenanigans to get it on Verizon as they dont "officially" support it yet but it will work. Its also a phablet (5.7 inch phone) so maybe you dont want one of those.

Compatibility has gotten a lot better. Verizon only used to include one of T-Mobile's LTE bands on its phones (Band 4). Now Verizon supports Band 2 which means all of T-Mobile's rural LTE buildouts are now supported as well. You will be missing Band 12 (which in Houston is actually fairly important) but perhaps its not as big a deal for you.

Also T-Mobile is shutting down its AWS HSPA network. Houston's has already been refarmed. Most of T-Mobile's HSPA is broadcasted over PCS (1900 mhz) which is supported on almost every phone in the world now. So newer Verizon phones will support T-Mobile's HSPA network and 2 of its LTE bands.

The HSPA issue was an especially large problem because if you lost an LTE connection you'd drop down straight to EDGE. You'd also be stuck making calls on EDGE which can be an awful experience if there's any congestion. Now that T-Mobile switched to PCS HSPA, you'll get universal 3G/HSPA coverage which will make a much better experience.

    Motorola Droid Turbo 2

We want our gadgets to be beautiful. Maybe it started with the phonograph, the princess phone, Braun radios, or the iMac. Who knows? But now it’s hard-coded into our brains: We want our gadgets to be beautiful. Tech capabilities advance, miracles become commodities, and soon, it’s not enough for our gear to do everything. It has to look good, too.

The Motorola Droid Turbo 2 doesn’t have that problem—because it doesn’t need a case. You can drop it face-down onto marble, jagged concrete, bathroom tiles—the screen couldn’t care less. It is the Kimmy Schmidt of phones. It is a Volvo. Try as hard as you want, you cannot smash this phone’s screen by dropping it. Go ahead and toss it around, let other people have a go, watch everyone cringe when it repeatedly meets the ground with a gnarly sounding SLAP. It’s all good. You can confidently flip it over, the big reveal every time, and see a perfectly intact screen. No spiderwebs, no shards, no exceptions.

My S3 mini is acting up, pissing me off. I don't have an upgrade on ATT till May. I'm thinking I'd like to buy something and put this chip in it for temporary purposes until May and then resell it when I can go up-to-date. (or not if I'm happy with it) But, I don't know anything much about phones.

    1. I'd like to get the best compromise between visibility and portability, my mini is in an indestructible case and still fits in my pocket but, I can't see maps well enough when I really need to. I cracked a couple of big phones before I went indestructible.

    2. I would like to get a cheap price, maybe $150 since I'm not a phonophile

    3. I only really use it as a phone and for music streaming, bluetoothing to my car. I have some signal issues with Pandora now

    4. I left anything Apple years ago before streaming because of the DRM. Sort of a Google/Android guy but not stuck to it.

Pick me a phone please (or tell me why not to do this)

(I have done a total reset on the old Mini)

had a go with the new sony compact 5 something2.
at first glance thought it was really nice, love the glass back, thinness and the size, but on closer inspecting, there were uneven gaps at the back between the glass and the body.
deal breaker was the skin. just cant get into it if its not a nexus anymore :(

I'd suggest the OnePlusX but OnePlus totally screwed up by not including Band 12/17. AT&T users in particular get totally screwed by that move.

They did the same thing with the OnePlusOne when they didnt include Band 2. I dont know what they're thinking some times because other than that, the OnePlusX is a great phone that to me is the phone Sony always tries to make but somehow screws up.

I'm so hesitant when it comes to spending my money. I've narrowed down my phone options to a few:

    Nexus 6P, 5X
    Droid Turbo 2
    Moto X Pure Edition

I just came across that Moto X, not a big phone guy. For $400, that phone seems great. Being able to customize it is cool too. Can anyone point out any reasons why I should or shouldn't get one of these phones? Will rep!

I've had the Moto X Pure Edition since early October, switched over from the S6 Edge. Overall, it's a really nice phone: fast, responsive, available micro-SD card, not overwhelmingly big like the Moto Nexus 6.

My biggest gripe about the phone is the battery life, I can't seem to go a full work day (7am to 4pm) without it draining down to 15-20%. I tried several things to get better battery life, but nothing really helped much. That's the biggest con on the phone, though it's kind of offset by the super fast charging, from 10% to about 55-60% in less than 30 minutes with the Quick Charger.

Wished it had a fingerprint reader as well. Overall, happy but always looking to upgrade, maybe to a Nexus 6P.

I own a Oneplus One, but will never buy from the company again.

They have the worst customer service and support imaginable. Luckily I haven't needed it. Also, they've essentially abandoned support on each product after they release it's followup. Something that is happening all too frequently with them.

Trash company is going down the tubes. Love my Oneplus one, though, despite it's issues.

Yeah, I just noticed the 6P doesn't allow you to expand the storage! 32 GB is really pushing it for me, and paying an extra $50 for 32 more GB doesn't sit well with me. So it becomes $550 for the 64 GB 6P vs. a customizable Moto X Pure that allows expandable storage for $400. Then there's the much more expensive Turbo 2 as well.
