Wow. What a player. I was in my teens and twenties when he played. I knew he was great but even then I didn't appreciate the special player he was. Just an awesome talent.

You're being too strict on position. J west guards the pg, magic at point forward, shaq at pf(doesn't really have to guard rodman,) + Kareem has the range to not clog the paint. Done, and it's not even close IMO.
That's my favourite Hakeem move of all time. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rILYRAfob5c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Lakers also had guys named Wilt and Elgin and Goodrich and Wilkes and Mikan. With Elgin, West, and Magic, you can make a good case for Kobe not starting. With Kareem and Wilt, you can make a good case for Shaq not starting.
You could easily argue that Jordan, Dream and Stockton were the best to play their positions with Barkley one of the best at his. The only thing missing in this draft was a transcendent small forward. Add Otis Thorpe as an all-star, Michael Cage as a rebounding champ and Sam Perkins. Then there is Jay Humphries, Jeff Turner, Vern Fleming, Tony Campbell, Ron Anderson, Danny Young, and Jim Peterson. Not only was it the greatest draft of all time, it is probably the best PF draft of all time. 28 from that class played at least 5 years in the NBA and 17 played at least 10 seasons. 10 scored more than 10,000 career points. 14 averaged 10 points or more per game for their career. 8 had more than 5,000 career rebounds. 4 had at least 10,000 career points and 10,000 career rebounds and 4 more had at least 10,000 points and 5,000 rebounds. 7 had 3,000 or more assists. 4 are in the Top Ten in career steals and another is in the Top 25.
This video doesn't have audio anymore because of copyright claims, but it's a great survey of Dream's career. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/uBrEsNS9zKg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
