I don't care how he does it, but he's got this team playing better. That's all that matters. Good job, cocach!!

Its called leadership. You know you have the talent and a successful system...just make it work. Just win.

    Coach is exactly right.

Rockets were seventh team in NBA history to start 0-3 with all Ls by 15 points or more ... but first of those seven to scramble back to 3-3

The approach to the game is so diverse. You have guys like Pops, SVG, healthy Kerr, Bud, Spoelstra, Carlisle (so, so underrated) etc...and then, you have Kevin.

McHale has his own style, but it's somewhat unappealing once you get past the "player's coach" persona. I don't know if I buy all of it anyway.

Rudy T was a true player's coach, but he was one of the innovators of spacing and isolation play. That was game-changing, and his props are well deserved. I feel badly just typing Rudy and McHale in the same field.

I hope McHale is improving in his noticeable deficits. This team, when fully compiled, needs more than a subjective conditional- coaching methodology. Somewhere, buried in his coaching toolbox, I have to believe that Kevin has a greater strategy, or in the least, a diversifying view of the court.

I hope he is not just satisfied with our results from this past season. The team has to move forward and not live in the past.

Admittedly, I think Kevin has plateaued and needs more help than ever with in-game adjustments, though not all of that is his fault. I don't think he is used to coaching a team that has increased in talent each year.

We first witnessed the inexperience with an emerging Kyle Lowry, a crafty Scola and a veteran in Kevin Martin. Coach just doesn't see the floor like he did as a player, and it just happens like that sometimes.

Luckily, even with his horrendous errors early on (Oh, hi Marcus Thornton, you play basketball?), we have legitimate star power in James Harden and a healthy Dwight, along with a great supporting cast. Help at the 4 please, though. :) Our record isn't great, but we've managed to turn it around.

I'm glad we have JB, Buck, Dunn and CF in the background. In due time, one will move up.

    Codman,

good post. Just want to add that McHale has one of the highest success rates for inbounds plays in Rockets history.

Also, you say he made an error early by not play Thornton, early. He also didn't make Montrezl start when TJones when down. He knows the rookies should watch from the bench, not throw him into new responsibilities and let him play his role, let the vet start.

He also is developing Capela well. Clearly that's McHale's help.

Harden in the interview where he rolled his eyes said "Battle battle battle." It equaled 46 points.

well it is true, we need to play harder. i. high school, whenever my team was down by 20pts, i just go on the court and tell everyone to play harder, and they do just that.

McHale said play harder. the players played harder. The Rockets won. Fans wants to fire the coach and let all the players go. Story of GARM.

By the way, if the reason the Rockets got better because there were technical issues in how they played the game or because of locker room chemistry problems, do you honestly think any coach is going to come out and say that? Or do they give the same PC response that McHale gave?

All I can say is that in the last two games the most obvious difference was the team, and particularly Harden, playing much harder. The body language was night and day.

I know it's en vogue to make fun of whatever McHale says, but he wasn't wrong.

I def. did not know about the inbounds play stat...good catch.:)

I agree about not throwing rookies in too early, but MT is a vet and was ready to go. I truly think McHale wasn't familiar with his game and how he would fit into the offense. I'm sure there are players that coaches just don't "know," but regardless, it's their duty to explore the possibilities of different line-ups. Of course I don't know, but I would assume that one of our assistant coaches let Kevin know about the potential positives/easy buckets that LowKeyMT brings to the table.

I do like how Clint is playing so far. When he adds some more muscle, I think he'll be even better. Last year, he drove me crazy, but you have to take "raw" players day by day.

I've loved almost every Rockets coach, but we were blessed with the offensive genius in Rick and the defense/toughness of JVG. Those teams had identities, with much less talent. I am a big fan of JB, and I think he has the makings of a great coach.

When I look at this roster, even with the injuries, the potential is incredibly high. Like any fan of a team, I want the talent maximized. Some of that comes from a coach. McHale has been successful here, but I can't help but wonder what a guy like Pop, Doc or Carlisle would do with the same roster...

    Bingo.

I think fans WISH the players didn't have to play as hard. They look at Spurs and Warriors and their play looks effortless (doesn't mean they aren't playing hard) and they attribute that to the coaching and play calling. When Mchale says to "play harder", fans think it's just Mchale's inability to construct plays that make it easier for Harden and company.

I have no problem with Mchale asking for his team to play harder though.
