We don't play any real contenders in our next 20 games

Yep. If D-Mo had to be out til X-Mas, the Rockets couldn't have asked for a better schedule from the NBA. They've squandered the Denver game already(and I guess Miami since they were up 21 in the 2nd half), but they did beat OKC and the Clippers, so they're not too far off the pace I was hoping for through 7 games. They really need to capitalize on this lighter slate of opponents through X-Mas(that week is brutal) so that the latter half of the season doesn't bury them.

 

Even if true, there's the danger of playing down to the competition, and the Rockets under McHale are very prone to that.

 

Neither are our rivals in next 20 games.

Stop with this we don't play any real contenders nonsense. It didn't mean much against the Nuggets. If you don't show up, you will lose.

 

Players need to show up, not the fans.

 

True, but if you have played or coached, you would acknowledge that the fans play a large role in hyping up a team, especially if that team is struggling.

I had the opportunity of watching some games in Golden State leading up to their destruction of the Mavs and, to be perfectly honest, you could feel the energy in the arena. The players, including one of my favorite non-Rockets of all time, Stephen Jackson, fed off of the fans. If you think the fans during Adelman's time with the Kings were crazy, those fans in the Bay don't play around.

Rudy T was right about the error in estimating. Players shouldn't get caught doing it with other teams, nor should they under-estimate the power of fans coming together.

So if we win 20 games in a row, we will break our own 22 game winning streak. Sign me up for that.

 

These games are times to create and sustain high levels of play. The Warriors always go for a certain number of points... if we create a number i.e. shoot for 110 points and keep all oponents under 100 we win. Adjust our style of play and pace according to that and stick to it. We will win the championship... thougher teams will require more effort obviously.

 

So you are saying score more than the other team and for the tougher teams play harder?

The Blazers may not be contenders, but they're 4-2. Memphis were 1 of 2 teams that had the series lead over Warriorsin last year's play-offs, and they should always be considered a contender, imo. Should be an interesting stretch, nonetheless.
