Actually, building teams are pretty much the same across the board. You just have maintain a ratio instead mere player-count. For instance; adding 1 FA in basketball would be equivalent to 4 in football, since football has 4x the roster size. Adding 1 good draft pick in basketball would be like adding 3 in football since the NBA draft is about 1/3 smaller. Football trades are different since player-for-player trades are more common in basketball, but overall, building a team is the same.

I don't think anybody really knows. At the time, people blamed Kubiak. Now people are blaming Rick, probably because they don't like him and it's now easier to blame him than Kubes.

Regardless, as I've mentioned in this thread before (I think), it's one of those decisions that looks bad in hindsight but was totally understandable at the time. I'm not going to criticize the decision to not take a chance on player coming off of what was thought to be a potential career ending injury.

True about Peyton. Just wanted to say, he wouldn't be a current topic had Smith and the Texans drafted better. Everyone would be happy.

Manning could have changed the culture in Houston because of his work ethic and not accepting losing. That one decision could have been a turning point for this pathetic franchise.

    I think that was Kubiak.

But Rick and McNair extended post injury Schaub. I don't think Kubiak wanted any part of that

    Colts should of kept Peyton.

Luck is still not the better QB.

    In 5 years too?

Their decision wasn't for the short-term.

Well good because in the short term luck sucks.

When is the long term? It's been four years and Peyton looks to be going to his second super bowl since leaving the Colts.

As usual, Manning is a postseason failure.

Luck is hurt and has had worse weapons than Peyton did in both IND and DEN.

No more talk about Luck, I'd rather bash Smith.

Isn't that the same (tired) rationale used for signing Ed Reed, Vince Wilfork... Let me ask you a question: how would you characterize JJ Watt's work ethic and desire to win?

QB? Huge difference! You can't even compare any of those guys to what Manning brings.

Who is in charge of picking the scouts?

If he doesn't do anything, get him out of here and bring in someone that does do something (preferably NFL General Manager type stuff). It isn't that hard of a concept. He's had plenty of time to prove that he's worth keeping around. O'Brien just got here and coached a pretty good season already. Give him a GM that actually GMs and let's see how it goes.

Exactly, the excuse that Smith really doesn't do that much sure in the hell doesn't help his case.

Rick Smith should just take the title for what he seems to really do

VP In charge of Contracts and Salary Cap Stuff and underwater basket weaving etc

Then let another GM come in .

Actually it is what you know. And we don't know squat about what goes on within the Texans organization. We have speculation and guesses but we really don't know.

Manning has the most one-and-done playoff appearances in league history.

He's, by fay, the greatest regular season QB ever..... and a postseason failure.
