so scrubby right now. went 1 on 4 twice and wasn't even close on both shots. what happened to the Brewer who was our best player in the preseason?
He shoots too much, if he would just focus on hustle, defense and fast breaking he would be fine, but he shoots like he is the main offensive weapon. DD
brewer knows only 2 things in bball: 1, run and gun on offense. be it 1-on-1 or 1-on-4, just run as fast he can. 2, gamble on defense. when it hits the blackjack, he looks great (all the hustles). otherwise, it creates a big hole on the entire defensive line. he's a mchale guy. as long as mchale is here, his job is safe. he should not be a big concern of the overall scheme of this team, tho. i like him. fun player. i wont worry about him too much.
He will never be benched b/c of McHale's love affair with his former Minnesota player. When the Rockets' power forwards get healthy, he will still be first off the bench while Thorton's minutes will decrease. Just stupid.
Had a nice touchdown from a d12 pass in the 4th to put us up by 10 puts and almost sunk a big 3 to close the 3Q - it went down and back ....out of a busted harden possession. He needs time and he will bust out of his funk.
I'm disappointed with Brewer or Terry's play, but can't blame them when the entire bench situation is so inconsistent. Due to injuries and whatnot, guys are floating in and out of the starting lineup, and there's no one to anchor that second unit and give them an identity. Brewer is at his best when he can free range and has someone who can get him the ball when he's talking off in the open court. Right now, he seems to have neither. And personally, I don't think he and Beverley are a good match in terms of style of offensive play.
If the Rockets didn't think he was going to be a valuable rotation player, they most certainly wouldn't have given him that contract. They aren't going to allow 7 games to change their opinion. He is playing extremely poorly right now, that much isn't debatable. But it's only 7 games. If he keeps this up for an extended stretch he could find himself benched. Right now Thornton is clearly the better option off the bench once D-mo get's back, but we still have some time for both of them to play up or down to their expected level.
He tries to force it too much when it's one on two or one on three. If he doesn't improve, he might be gone by the trade deadline.
I recall last year he was in a bad slump for a few weeks and then when he broke that bad streak he got on a roll...but right now it's brutal to watch him go thru the cycle on the negative side
I started with Terry and Brewer because I was talking about tonight's performance. But ultimately, Beverley is the backup PG, so the chemistry between Beverley and Brewer is an important issue. Capiche?
The season is early. People just go off of dogging Harden and now they have jumped on Brewer. I'm not worried about Corey though. He'll be there when it matters, probably sooner than that. I don't need to remind anybody, or maybe I do: Dude has champion credentials, champion DNA, two NCAA championships at Florida and he played a major role in bringing that all to fruition. Same for his NBA ring with the Mavs. It is no mistake that teams that he has played on have won championships. Brewer has forgotten more about what it takes to win than most people here even know to think about.
