Honestly, I think that has more to do with improvements on the roster than mchale.

Adding Harden, then Dwight, then Smith last year. Now Ty. I think a lot of coaches records would have improved.

Life is full of issues that are Not black and white and instead have shades of gray. Mchale is not All bad.

That said, IMO, the team would be a lot better off with a better coach. Of course that's not saying much on the surface, but I believe they could find an upgrade relatively easily. Overall, I do not believe the positives mchale brings to the table outweigh the negatives. But that's just my opinion.

We'd have to trade the farm to get him, and I don't think we have the farm. Outside of James Harden, and that's a non-starter.

We need to think outside the box. Kerr didn't have any coaching experience.

I'll throw some out of left field names. Keep in mind i expect them to be surrounded by veteran head coaches as their assistants like Kerr has had.

    1st name.

    John Stockton

Another member of a rival team like McHale, but Stockton was a brilliant player. He will command respect. X's and O's and learned from Jerry Sloan for 2 decades. Pick and roll with Harden/Lawson to Dwight/Cappela all day son. 1st time coach so he can still be a Morey puppet but they both like the same style of play anyway.

"Following his retirement, Stockton started coaching in youth teams, being "an assistant on seven or eight teams at once" in 2003.[15] The Jazz also invited Stockton to train both Deron Williams and Trey Burke.[39] Stockton also became involved in various businesses.
On October 27, 2015, Stockton joined Montana State University's women's basketball program as an assistant coach to replace Kellee Barney.[42] Barney left the program to pursue a career in business, and Stockton had previously coached four of the players on the MSU women's team during Amateur Athletic Union leagues.[42]"

Seems the interest to coach might be there. His children all already left college. He has a son named Houston. Low key kind of person, perfect quiet city for him. He loves the underdog title, Rockets never get respect.

    2nd name.

    Mark Price

Morey's favorite player. Minor league/college assistant experience. NBA assistant experience with the Bobcats in 2013. Credited with fixing several NBA players jumpshots. Perfect puppet for Morey. Currently a head coach for the Charlotte 49ers.

    Last name

    Anfernee Hardaway

Respected and loved. Players would want to come play for a guy like Penny. I'm sure a player like Durant would love to play for a young, head coach he can relate to and probably grew up a fan of. Penny is currently winning state championships in Memphis for his buddies high school team in which he took over while his buddy was sick.

McHale probably would have been fine if he was surrounded by a really strong veteran coaching staff. It's too late for that now so the next guy must have a great staff. Think of it like McHale the popular General who gets all the attention and credit while it's his lower ranked officers-Lt's, Cpt's who are out on the field with the soldiers leading the way. Surround the General with good officers who are the real "head coaches."

If we're really thinking out of the box, then why not give Becky Hammon the head coaching job?

On the other hand... maybe not.

The Clippers are no better under Doc Rivers than they were under Vinny Del Negro.

Since we're that far outside the box, why not just hire Craig Biggio to be the new head coach?

I agree that our talent as a whole has improved, but disagree that it is the only reason we are winning. If you all recall, Josh Smith was a cancer, and Detroit won like 15 of their first 17 games without him on the roster. It was the classic addition by subtraction.

Now we struggled mightily for the first couple of weeks after the Smith trade. Then McHale and the staff made the adjustments, and put Smith in a position to help the team rather than hurt it. It's not like Smith is this transcendent talent that can be effective regardless of coaching. He needed to be coached up and put in the proper position to positively effect the game, and I think the staff did a pretty dang good job at that.

I just dislike the whole "oh we have so much talent, they just overcome McHale" rhetoric. Throughout NBA history there are plenty examples of talented teams that haven't fared well. Add in the fact that we are continuously one of the most banged up teams in the league, and I think it is even more of a ridiculous claim. Are we a talented team? Sure, but so are a lot of teams NBA, and in my opinion, our talent (especially right now with all of the injuries) is inferior to a decent amount of teams.

Also, it's hilarious that half the board calls Harden the most overrated star in the league in one thread, and in another say McHale is so terrible and it's only because of Harden that we have done well during his tenure. So much contradiction.

if les has been really expect a season that we at the minimum reach the wcf, then i think he'd be disappointed.

this team, the way it is right now, is far from that, imo. not saying they cant improve or its impossible that they somehow get there, but i doubt it, for a variety of reasons. time will tell, in about 7 months.

Didn't you know everyone in this thread is a basketball genius compared to Kevin McHale?

    (joking)

This is just a website for people to play out their fantasies . . . fantasies that their knowledge approaches that of NBA coaches and GM's. . . .

I think the Clippers are better. I also think the west has gotten a little bit tougher.

Your post has nothing to do with what I wrote.

Listen, I only mentioned Smith as a major piece that was added. I could have mentioned Brewer as well. I also could have mentioned Harden playing at a near MVP level, Dmo having a breakout season, Ariza helping our defense....

That was not the point. Please read carefully. I responded to a claim that mchale has improved the team's record year after year and i was simply pointing out that the team has also gotten more talented each year as well and that I don't think McHales coaching was/is the reason alone for improvement.

Please do not mistake my post for saying that the teams talent alone is why they win. If you comprehend what I wrote I plainly stated that McHale has some positives but I do believe that his negatives hold the team back.

If you refuse to think for yourself, all the power to you.

No need to announce your inability or unwillingness to do so here. Just let the people that want to have their own thoughts and opinions and discussions play.

That's part of what fan message boards consist of. Discussing and debating goings on with the team.

You'd get over it. It's Jerry Sloan and Karl Malone that need to burn alive. Stockton is actually a really likable person when you listen to him in interviews and read about him.

The dirty plays etc are what teams think of our own Pat Bev. Stockton played hard every game for 2 full decades. He would be as loved as Hakeem if he were a Rocket. Can't hate the man outside of basketball because he was an amazing player that stuck it to our team.
