So basically you're saying McHale has no impact whatsoever? I'm sorry but I simply can't agree with your sentiment. "Players fail, not the coach" is a lazy statement. If you think basketball can just be won based on the players' talent, you're simply wrong. There's so much more that goes into winning a championship.
Hasn't mchale complained about lack of practice time with healthy bodies ? What do you think they do in practice ? Work on trying harder ? By the end of the year we might have the best offense in the nba if Lawson gets comfortable and Dwight and Dmo are healthy . Last year we won 56 games and went to the WCF with this "joke of a system " and awful injury luck . are we just that talented that we are getting these wins despite ****ty coaching ? Or maybe mchale and his staff are doing a better job than most people think .
There is a distinct difference in a great offense solely because of the greatness of your players and a great offense because of a solid system. We are depending too much on the greatness of one on one by our best players.
What's a point of greatness if they can't stay healthy. This coach have been able to be successful even with low talent or injury plage season. And this awful system have been in the top of scoring since his been here and winning.
Ding Ding Ding. The Moreyball system is effective enough to where it can make above average talent look great. But when it gets excellent talent, the diminishing returns kick in and it's all about strategy to get over the hump. Moreyball let our '13 team get in the playoffs, McHale's flaws lost us a 1st round matchup we could easily win and made LMA look like Wilt Chamberlain. This is the time when Moreyball needs some intervention, not a high degree, just enough. Offensively, it's more player movement & high post passing. Defensively, it's always been an issue. The talent on this team is just freaky, and we play at a pace that if you do not have depth, or are not disciplined will suffer. Go find which teams have depth, and discipline, and realize why we won't beat them. It's not about being a top 5 team, it's about being the best team. Especially, with this talent. So no longer are WCF expectations, it's ring or bust. This team has the talent to do it. We're selling ourselves short.
I don't agree with calling timeouts. Especially, on the road in a regular season game. Let these ****ers figure it out.
It's just excuses, referring to the bold, really it is. It's not about a lack of practice time even if he had ALL the practice time in the world, would these things change: 1) Off-ball player movement 2) Defensive p&r strategy 3) Defensive rotation strategy No, would our talent on the floor be better? Yes, and is that we would win or have a better chance to? Ultimately, yes. Again, we made it 99% here. The 1% needs fixing. McHale is too dumb to do that, and Morey is too much looking at the paper works to realize that. He needs to physically watch the game and see how ****ed up we are on defense.
He's not getting fired. Move on. Do you want to be in the position that OKC and Chicago are with dumb college coaches?
What's sad, is that we now have people hoping that the Rockets lose just so we can have a coaching change. ClutchFans also wanted Rudy fired, JVG fired, and Rick fired. It doesn't matter who the coach is. ClutchFans will always be unhappy and want a change.
This. I don't know who is better but threads like this will always exist. Under Rick we lost twice to utah in the first round. Coaches like Phil Jackson and Greg Popovich are not out there waiting to be hired by the Rockets. Who knew Steve Kerr would do a better job than Matt Jackson as a coach? He was a terrible GM.
This isn't a recent development. They were openly hoping for a low seed in the playoffs last year on here and again hoping for a colossal failure in the first round. They all started really sharpening their fangs during the Clipper series when we fell behind but alas, the Rockets pulled it out, LOL. That game 6 must have really been torture for the McHale haters. Now, they are back and smelling blood in the water hoping for Rockets failure.
Here's what people overlook when it comes to coaching-it's not just about the HC. It's the entire coaching staff. They had Alvin Gentry and Ron Adams, two of the best assistants in the league. How good were they? They institutionalized an offensive and defensive process that became bigger than just the HC. That's why you see someone like Luke Walton filling in and the machine doesn't skip a beat. They created a fine tuned machine and now it doesn't even matter who's driving the ship. I'm ok with keeping McHale as the HC for the simple reason that our players respect him and he is a players coach. What we need though since he's not the best Xs and Os guy is a competent staff which we don't have. Finch and Bickerstaff are amateurs and couldn't hold Gentry or Adams jock.
This isn't football were you split offense and defense. This also isn't baseball where coaches have the least impact as moreyball thinks. Nobody respects Mchale. They dont even keep him in the loop to when who and what players are coming. Theres a big disconnect between Morey and Mchale. All Mchale has is this cookie cutter blue print from Morey
Most of those people are joking or being sarcastic. It's entertainment. This a forum with thousands of people of course some are gonna like the coach and some are not it's pretty much common sense.
