This is simply a foolish question. 3/4 of a season with a bona fide start center is better than the alternative of a full season with promising young big, that will eventually be a good player. Give him a 3 year max deal with stupid money and trade his contract in the last year if you have to.

Anybody clamoring to let Dwight walk so we can develop a young center is just not basketball smart. This team is chock-full of risk-takers and just flat-out inattentive defenders all around the perimeter, and if it wasn't for Dwight patrolling the paint and protecting the rim, we'd be in a serious world of trouble. He's the key to our success in the playoffs. I'm not saying we should give him the $170M max or whatever he's qualified to earn, but 5 yrs/$110 or something wouldn't be out of line in the slightest.

On Dwight walking, I only hope it happens is if that is the only way to get Durant and we get Durant.

When he's dialed in, he can be a great asset for this team. However, he's 30 with recurring injury issues so giving him a max contract would be a big gamble. The question that has to be asked is Howard enough of a difference maker for the Rox to make another serious run at the title especially given the stacked state of the Western Conference. If the answer is yes, then by all means pay the man. If the answer is no, then...

Best case scenario he takes less money in an effort to sign Durant

I've said it again and again, but if you don't want Dwight back-then you're wrong. This dude is as tough as nails playing through knee/back injuries, and when the lights shine bright in the NBA playoffs he shows up night in and night out. So he misses a few regular season games, no big deal as long as the big man is healthy and ready to go come playoff time.

No Dwight means no championship...even if Durant signs with us (small chance, I know). Dwight doesn't have sexy stats, but just because elite post defense can't be quantified doesn't mean it should be overlooked as much as it is on this board.

I want him to opt out so we can sign KD. Then we can go over the cap to sign dwight to an extension.

Did you watch the playoffs for the last two years? Case closed. Regular season championships hold far less meaning to the real one.

he's too injury prone to be worth the max at this stage in his career. If we give him the max, we're never going to the finals unless a miracle season happens.

Hope he takes less so we can sign Durant.

It's simple. He wants max, he can just take his ass to another team, because that would mean he's not about the ring, not about winning and making sacrifices which he deep down knows he needs to make with his injuries now.

If he takes a serious paycut so we can chase some great players to address the PF position or even Durant, he should be willing to do that and I'll gladly take him back.

He has arguably been the best player in the playoffs from any team since coming to Houston. I hope he stays with the team

No a max for him at this stage. Take a cut to stay or move on.

    Lol.

This team falls apart in the playoffs without Dwight.

Dwight beasted, 20 pts-20 rebs against Deandre and hit all his hack-a-Dwight free throws
