Really, unless we're switching to the triple option, no offense is going to work well without competent QB play and that includes passing. I don't think it looks like Heard is going to be able to pass, so I'm advocating Swoopes. Do I think he's on the cusp of the Heisman? No. But I just think he and the rest of the team fit the spread just as well as any other offense. I'm basing a lot of that on how sh#tty TCU (inc. Boykin) were on offense 2 years ago. They get that new offensive coordinator from Oklahoma State, and they are right up there with anybody.

Plus, there are lots of variations of the spread - they aren't all pass-first. Remember Coach Rodriguez at West Virginia with Pat White several years back? I haven't followed him at Arizona. WV won a BCS bowl doing that.

I bought that 36 Chambers when it first came out. I remember that song.

We're not losing to Kansas. I'm taking my nieces to their first game that game, and I specifically picked that game b/c there was no way we'd lose to Kansas. If we lose that game, I say we pack it up, forfeit the rest of the games, and try to find ourselves. And I will invoice Strong for all of my expenses.

Can we just give up on the Charlie Strong era? There is no reason we should get our asses kicked like this... We aren't even respectable.

I understand its not smart to get rid of coaches so fast but he has done about as bad as you can. Texas should be in a bowl every year on talent alone.

Kansas will have no fear of Texas now, I doubt any team does.

Do you realize we got shut out by Iowa State??!!

All they have to do is stack the box for the run and spy heard, they don't care if we pass.

I don't understand why we got shutout. Even New Mexico State scored on us during our dominant years.

And we beat OU and KState. Iowa State is bad, but they are not remotely Kansas bad. KU has been outscored by 200 points this season (ISU: 30; Texas: 50). The only team they didn't lose to by double digits was South Dakota State, and they still lost to them.

Texas may not beat anyone else, but they'll beat Kansas.

Agreed. And this is why I don't think we have the personnel to run the pass happy spread that we see across the Big 12. Also the reason why I'm not counting on a TCU like turnaround with a new OC.

Which is why I like Traylor for the job. Apparently he has been the one that installed the spread to run system we saw against OU and KSU. This is the system that got Auburn to the NC game a few years back and similar to what OSU is running. This system fits our current personnel much better than bringing an air raid OC which is what I'm afraid Charlie would try to do.

    This.

However, if DKR somehow turns into the Twilight Zone next week, Charlie Strong will become a dead coach walking.

I still don't see why we couldn't or wouldn't get a more proven coach for Offensive Coordinator.

Also, I don't know about determining the long-term direction of the offense based on current personnel. And really - despite how bad our QB situation is - let's get real - QB's who can run the air raid competently are pretty much a dime a dozen. Everybody has them but us. You don't need a 5 star QB. How many Texas Tech QB's made it in the NFL, but they did just fine at this level. Furthermore, I'm not saying Swoopes is great, but he can make all the throws and he even did some things in this last game (aside from that terrible pass to a wide open Daje).

We definitely could but given Strong's record of offensive hires, I'm not holding my breath in all honesty.

Being able to make all the throws and actually making them are completely different. Whether it was him or the system (or more than likely a combination), we had a historically bad offense with him starting last season and was benched for a RS-freshman who has not been able to pass much better. Swoopes has a nice arm and is probably a better passer than Heard in almost all facets, but he has proven to get rattled easily and be extremely inaccurate when it matters.

But whoever it is, we need to bring in a new QBs coach. Hiring and keeping Shawn Watson has hurt Strong more than any move he has made at Texas.

So Charlie just kept talking about "execution" at his press conference. Everyone is getting pretty sick of hearing it. I guess he can't come out and say that they don't have any decent QBs on the roster but he isn't helping himself. Ugh this is going to be an annoying off-season and a rough recruiting period.

I get sick of hearing him admit they didn't coach well enough. If your company keeps having disasters and your employee admits it's their fault, how long do you keep letting that happen? Taking accountability is a good thing, but it's also sort of like admitting you aren't good at your job in this case.

They just need to fire him and get on with it. Charlie strong should give most of his salary to bridgewater.

Obviously, starting Tyronne Swoops in a spread offense is the answer.

What exactly would you all like to hear him say? I think you're expecting too much from press conferences - all you're ever going to get is coach speak. The coach of just about every losing team says the same things.

I think the point is that we are all sick of embarrassing losses. There really isn't a good thing to say after an embarrassing losses, as you noted. When we say we are sick of him saying something after an embarrassing loss, I am not hoping he commits some time to preparing a better post-embarrassing loss speech. I would rather he just figure out a way to stop the embarrassing losses.....or just get fired.

I think Strong earned himself another season after beating OU and playing so many freshmen. I've always been of the mind that Mack left the program in disarray and Strong was brought in to clean house. Impatience is not a virtue when your mandate is to burn down the program and rebuild it.

That said, the team's failure to get motivated and be prepared for so many games this year is worrisome. I was willing to move along from the TCU loss; their talent was always going to blow ours out of the water. But getting shut out by Iowa State? That speaks to poor coaching and preparation. That loss is firmly on Strong.

If he shows no progress again next season, I imagine he'll be fired.
