Umm no. You can always impede the swinging motion or stabbing motion of a knife wielder if you time it right. You can even use your arms as a shield and get stab wounds or slash wounds on your arm which shouldn't be even close to life threatening. Now go time dodging a bullet with your arms. Good luck.

What is more threatening . A 6 year old with a knife or a 6 year old with a gun?

Any news about the identity of the attacker or his motive?

I'm sure if it turns out to be that you'd be the first to know and report here on CF.

I don't understand how 5 people could get stabbed in the first place? Maybe a few of them were just cut, not that it's any less serious.

But this is a gun argument that seems to always go overlooked. People always wanna use the argument let's ban cars, hammers, baseball bats, knives, etc. because they kill people too. Yes, but none of them can kill from a distance. The argument falls apart right there.

The argument also falls on its face because unlike cars, hammers, bats, knives...guns were made for the sole purpose of killing people.

Any ways I've never been for banning guns but some of the arguments people use to support keeping gun laws the way they are...are very weak usually like that.

You would think that acknowledging the superiority of a gun over a knife as a killing tool would be an easy thing.

Your premature assumptions say a lot about your prejudiced mindset.

It's not prejudiced to say you have a Muslim problem. Stop satirizing yourself!

Is the safety on the gun? Is the gun unloaded? Is the gun racked? What caliber?

Is the knife longer than 5 inches? Is the knife serrated? Is the knife sheathed? Is the knife sharp? Is the knife honed?

Soooo...let's say that the lawmakers pass the law to get rid of guns.

Then what. What is the plan? Voluntary gun drop offs, Mandatory turn in for registered owners? Search and Seizure for those that don't comply?

    Honestly, what are feasible plans?

"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also. Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you. You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. (Matthew 5:39-44)"

I bet Jesus Christ was an open carry, AR-15 kind of guy!

Like the 8 yr old who killed an experienced gun instructor at a range in Arizona?

But good point -- she was not five years old. Solid refutation.

WUT? Nobody of common sense is talking about that.

Most people are talking about better background checks and the most radical of us would like to limit the size of clips for semi-automatics and that sort of thing.

I personally think there should be required training, sometimes with refresher courses, just like driving, and I think there should be insurance requirements, just like driving. Smart gun technology would be a great thing to consider as well, if the NRA would allow it. Less motivation for black market guns, stolen guns, and it would be impossible for a teen to take their parents' guns and have an accident.

All of this would just encourage safer usage and fewer deranged people getting their hands on them, IMHO.

But only a few fringe people really think we should "get rid of guns." That's totally impossible anyway, and I for one don't want to see that. Too many generations of proud gun owners and hunters in my family.

Well if that's the case, I completely agree with better background checks, and Smart gun is a smart thing as well, although I can't imagine that anywhere in the near future.

Good luck on an insurance policy on guns. That's double dipping. Everyone is required to have insurance as it is now.

I think it's safe to say that there are more than a handful of people that believe only the police and military should have guns. I've heard it here on these very forums.
