In Vegas, the Big 12 held sway over the Big Ten all season, and TCU and Baylor are both considered superior. “First of all, I’m very disappointed in what happened,” Kornegay said. “I don’t see how you could drop a team three spots after what happened yesterday. Our power ratings had TCU and Baylor – and still do – higher than Ohio State. We had the Big 12 ahead of Big Ten all year. I kind of saw this coming, though. It wasn’t a total surprise for us that the committee selected Ohio State.” That doesn’t mean Kornegay agreed with it. He sided with Art Briles – remove the uniforms and the tradition, and it would have been clear which teams belonged. “If this was Oklahoma and Texas, this wouldn’t have happened,” Kornegay said. “If Minnesota would have produced the same result as Ohio State, it wouldn’t have made the playoff. Is this all about money and popularity?” In Vegas, Kornegay said, Alabama and Oregon were also ranked first and second, followed by TCU, Baylor, Ohio State and Florida State at “sixth or seventh,” Kornegay said. “But I understand why you have Florida State up there. They’re the defending champions. They’re undefeated. In our power rankings, they would be an underdog to all those teams, including Ohio State.” Kornegay did not understand Ohio State’s inclusion. He said TCU was slightly ahead of Baylor in the ratings, and both the Bears and the Horned Frogs would be about a 7-point favorite over Ohio State.
A well ranked Wisconsin team that was extremely overrated. Their best win was Nebraska. I believe I saw yesterday that Baylor would be favored over them. According to ESPN Stats & Info, the Big 12 is the top ranked conference. I just don't see how you keep the champion of the Big 12 out of the playoff for the champ of the Big 10 which is a joke. I was listening to the Ticket today and they said to imagine a smaller name Big 10 school like Northwestern to have the same resume as Ohio State and put it up vs a UT or OU resume like Baylors, the same thing would happen the bigger brand name will prevail because the committee is drawn to the brand name. If you are going by the results on the field, Baylor should have went in at 4. Period. Better wins than tOSu and a better loss. The team Ohio State lost to finished a game 0-0 in regulation. That is awful.
That game was a long time ago. TCU took off after that, baylor lost to a middle of the pack team and dang near lost to a 4-8 Texas Tech team. If TCU and Baylor played today, id take TCU by a couple TDs. I know Petty was knocked out, but true freshman Patrick Mahomes was slicing that baylor defense wide open. As for Osborne and Alverez, I just don't think coaches care about all that stuff. Plus, correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't members supposed to recuse themselves if they had any affiliation with a team? I'm pretty sure those guys' wouldn't get a vote on big10 teams. And even if they did, it's just two votes... What does worry me is the fact that we don't know if these committee members are really watching the games. Where you might have an argument is thinking that maybe not everybody saw Bay/TCU play, so they just assume OSU, the more traditional school, is a better team. I think that's far more likely than individual agendas being forced. What makes you say Wisconsin was so overrated? They have the best RB in the country, a beast Oline, and a highly ranked defense. They're a legit top 15-20 team. I feel your pain man, although I have no sympathy for Baylor in general, I can imagine how pissed Id be if TexasTech were in this position. But to say that any of the 3 teams in question are head and shoulders above the others I think is wrong. Like I said, I would have voted Baylor in, but it's incredibly close dude...
I don't think anybody can argue with saying Baylor deserved a spot. Frankly, they were who I thought should have made it as well. Having said that...people saying Ohio State is "awful" and "has no case" are being a little too one sided. Ohio State definitely had a good case, and yeah the brand name might have had a bit to do with it, but that's far from the only thing. Ohio State had a much better SOS and blew out Wisconsin with their 3rd stringer. I have to believe not many teams could do that. There's no right or wrong answer, so saying Ohio State has no business being in is foolish. The Big 12 screwed themselves by not having an extra game. I assume that will change very shortly.
Huh??? They didn't play a ranked team until November 8th. How are you figuring their SOS was much better than Baylor's?
Ohio State is 2-0 against the current top 40 teams. Baylor and TCU are 4-1 each (8-2 overall). Ohio State played an overall tougher SoS but my first point here shows what's really up.

This is a case of selective memory. A week before Baylor struggled vs Tech, TCU struggled far more vs an even worse Kansas. Baylor never trailed vs Tech and was up 25, I believe, before the huge comeback. TCU trailed by 10 in the 3rd quarter vs Kansas.
Big 12 defenses are awful. That is a big reason as to why it TCU/Baylor were able to put up a lot of points and look as great as they did. I doubt they can do that in a conference like the Big 10.
The whole "Big12 defenses are terrible" trope is so ****ing tired. Outside of Alabama, which seems to have a Jr Varsity NFL defense every year, and occasionally an LSU or FSU or whoever, they are the same as everybody else.
That's a fair point. And I'm not basing my entire argument on that game alone. As I've said, I would have voted Baylor number 4. I think the H2H win over TCU and winning the big12 would have been enough for me. All Ive said is that none of the 3 teams can say that they should've made it without a doubt. All 3 had their advantages. IMO TCU is the best team of the 3, but Baylor had the most impressive win of the 3, and OhioSt had the extra game and was the most impressive/hottest team at the end of the season. While I would have voted for Baylor, I see why OhioSt got the nod. And I think all 3 resumes were so close, that the committee really couldn't go wrong with whoever they chose.
This ignores the fact that TCU actually played one of those Big10 schools. And they put up 30 against Minnesota in 3 quarters before going conservative with a 30-0 lead. They also held them to 7 points - no one else held Minnesota to under 20. So if the Big12 defenses suck, then the Big10 defenses suck even more.
Well I think is the major flaw in the system. Scoreboard watching can leave a different impression than actually watching the game. TCU offense scored that much, because most if not all of their scoring drives happened off turnovers in their own redzone. It was quite sad actually Minnesota had a lot that game. While TCU scored which is not a gimme it is not like they were driving the field against Minnesota each time. This is the same as Wisconsin pre/post-injury of player vs LSU and Mich St. epic collapse against Oregon. The other team by no means looked vastly superior.
I don't get how Wisconsin/LSU compares with Oregon/MSU. Anybody with a brain knows Wisconsin wouldn't have blown the 24-7 lead if Gordon hadn't been injured. LSU was dead in the water and got lucky. On the other hand, Oregon erupted on MSU and dominated them with a 28-0 2nd half run. They WERE vastly superior because Mariota made a couple of Superman plays and their D-line stuffed MSU when it counted. Did MSU lose a superstar player that caused them to collapse?
