Tough spot with Dwight... Even with his movement issues, he's still an above average athlete and game changer... However, i don't feel like he has complete control at times, especially on offense. We can't be very confident, with him as our best player in the playoffs. He's too hit or miss for that and his hits aren't timely, it's just more in the flow of a game. Hopefully he'll choose to stay here at a discount, so we can get James more offensive help at the 4.
Pretty much my thoughts on Dwert .... He has a huge impact defensively and in rebounding but offensively he's a liability. To be honest , not only do I not want to see him posting up , I don't want him operating in the pick and roll as the picker. I prefer that someone else , more offensively versatile plays that role leaving Dwert to roam the baseline where he can be effective and his weaknesses hidden. When Dwert is the pick man the options are much more limited .... He cant pick and pop and isnt a good enough passer to get others easy shots. Problem is that the Rockets just don't have a guy that can operate as the pick man that can be a threat to hit a mid range shot , a 3 or make the right pass to an open player. Dwert , Jones , Capela & Harrell can finish .... and that's it for the most part. (Capela has had a couple nifty passes) Once the ball handler gets them the ball there is only one option - Finish at the rim and teams have started packing the paint making that much more difficult. We've also seen quite a few turnovers in attempting to get them the ball as a result of the way teams play them. They are simply missing a key ingredient in that play being successful in an offensively versatile big. Hopefully Morey can create a package with Jones to solve that issue between December 15th and the trade deadline .... along with DMo returning.
so? there is no one quite like rodman. dwight and rodman are very different, physically or mentally, not to mention the team settings. maybe i am wrong, but i just think people have too high of an expectation in dwight or harden. and those "jordan partied too", "team x started the season badly and look what they did" kinda logics are really flawed.
Obviously, we're better with him than without him. I don't think he'll continue to be worth max money in the coming seasons, but still happy to have him this season.
I agree. Having both DMO and Howard playing in the paint together this year..looking forward to seeing this happen
It is all true. Rodman led the league in rebounds , won defensive player of the year. So did Dwight. Offensively Dwight is better than Rodman.
i didnt say they're not true, did i? sometimes i just cant tell if you're serious or not. before i head to my tennis hitting drill, let me tell you an nba secret - there's nothing to be expected out of this rockets or any other team this yr. the champs are gonna be the cavs. you see, according to the logic seen on this board, gsw have added nothing to very little, and even tho kd is back in okc and the spurs have added aldridge, the cavs have had all their stars back. remember last yr's finals? they only had lebron and that lil auzzie. this yr., watch out for the cavs. in comparison, our addition of lawson is soooooo insignificant. so just quit the season and stop watching games.
I cringe when he posts up and demands the ball. But the guy gets fouled all the time when posting up and they never call it. As long as he makes his free throws, I'll be happy though.
The difference is the Bulls didn't waste offensive possessions going thru Rodman in the post .... He was the garbage man. Dwert needs to be the best garbage man he can be. Don't waste possessions going thru him.
I disagree. How many times have we seen turnovers trying to get him the ball in the pick & roll or offensive fouls against Dwight as a result of him being the pick man ? If he is the 2nd big man patrolling the baseline with Harden and X running the pick and roll his weaknesses are hidden .... he can attack the offensive boards or catch easy passes over the top of the defense for dunks & layups. He does get a lot of fouls called .... but they don't seem to take advantage of that either. He misses a lot of FT's and when they get a guy with a 3-4 fouls on him and never go back and attack that player. Not much tactical thought by this coaching staff ....
well if you haven't noticed the other rockets bigs aren't healthy/post relevant. Regardless if you think it's a wasted offensive possessions, the ball needs to go down in the post a couple times when he's playing. Eliminating it all together especially with the situation of all the rockets bigs hurts houston more than helps at the moment. Obviously the offense has changed tremendously as it does not go through him as much as when he first got here but he still has the ability to get an easy bucket down there and you need that from time to time
I really cannot wait until Dmo is back and Dwight can at least have somebody attempting to box out for him when he challenges a shot. We were running Brewer at pf for a stretch last night. Brewer. At power forward. Dwight's post game outside of 2 feet is really atrocious. But, that defense. It's really hard to appreciate sometimes just how much he drastically improves our defense on every level. Def W factor.
i'm not sure i've seen (dwight + post + easy bucket) in years. Maybe give it to him if he has a PG on him but even then no one can make the entry pass and there's every chance he'll get stripped. As for the PnR - he is so worried about getting open for the "roll" that his "pick" consists of him tossing his elbows out for half a second and then sprinting to the hoop without ever freeing the ball handler. I'm a Dwight fan and think he is vital to the team, but he's not much more than an older Andre Drummond who sets lazy screens. It's been 3 years (?) and the Harden Howard Pick and Roll still hasn't become the show stopper we expected it to be. Anybody else see those two shouting at each other during the OKC game after a Howard alley-oop?
