I've seen enough 15 footers to think he can hit that shot. I'd like to see him develop a 18-19 footer and run the pick and roll through him. He becomes an offensive force if he can nail down the pnr.
For us, no. For the Spurs, yes. Or anyone that doesn't have a 3 or die GM under their belt. But realistically he's shown some decent range in college. Inconsistent 15-17ft jumper. For a big man that dunks absolutely everything that's not too bad. Rich man's Kenneth Faried I'm hoping.
Funny. Harrell was supposed to be the odd man out in this 3 point shooting team and yet he's the one with the FG%.
He has a decent mid range shot but I'm sure he is discouraged from shooting it. Kind of sad because it could really open up his game for attacking the rim. Imagine if D Mo had developed a consistent mid range shot in addition to his post moves and improved 3 point shooting.
What is McHale's deal with Harrell Harrell has been one of the few bright spots this season, but yet McHale is reluctant to go to him. Hardly played him at all last night even though we were playing a 2 guard at power forward. Don't get this or McHale's rotation in general. Yeah we won, but we might have had an easier go of it had he played a bigger role.
We went with a small ball line-up the whole night to try to get Harden and Lawson going. The other night vs. Heat, Harrell struggled as the lone big. If our 3s start falling, we can create the space we need. Maybe he can see action again. And we can go with a two big line-up again so we won't get obliterated on the boards.
General rule of thumb, Harden is very easy to neutralize with 2.9 defense if three non-shooters are on the court. If Harden is neutralized, Rockets lose. Harrell will not play over Howard. I am good with this decision by McHale. Against Miami, Harrell played over Capela and people complained. Against OKC, Capela played over Harrell. I agree with how McHale handled the center position against OKC. Against OKC, McHale played Ariza/Brewer or Ariza/Thornton instead of Harrell/Ariza. I can see an argument for Harrell/Ariza getting time in situations when Ariza is getting beat up on the post, but last night...Rockets did very well with Ariza at the 4. W/o Harden on court, the need for spacing is even greater.
I doubt it does too... but I think he has the ability to hit the corner 3 if he works at it. If Jones' ugly jumper can product a 30% 3-point shot, I think Harrell can do better than that.
Trez doesn't need range. He brings hustle, tenacious rebounding and interior defense. Can't ask the kid for much more than that.
dwight posts ups frustrate me so much. not because he usually misses them or turns it over but he you know 100% of the time once he gets the ball down low he will NEVER pass it out if he doesn't like what the D gives him. I mean, the shot would be so much better if the defense didn't know he was going to go up with the ball EVERY time.
