I was kind of hoping America would adopt a similar policy limiting the number of children one can have based on the household income.

Read that they expect a 4-6% bump to the economy due to the extra spending from more kids. This is China's stimulus package. It's brilliant. Look at the problems Japan and Singapore are having right now with declining population

If you did that, everyone would have like two kids maximum. Not a bad idea.

The sheer amount of lunacy in this thread is overwhelming, but I'm not turning the Hangout into the D&D. So I will just say that I hope China goes a step further and eventually eliminates any policy on limiting the number of children per household.

Checking in to see who is defending forced sterilizations, forced abortions, abandoned baby girls, people losing their only child to milk scandals and earthquakes. All based on 1790's eugenics science that has been disproved every year and every time the population has doubled.

So sad that people would rather do something so supresive to our freedom, then even just entertaining the thought of taking better care of the environment.

You're just digging a deeper hole with your defensiveness. Houstons population was small until air conditioning, after which it exploded. Embrace innovation.

dude we are borh frkm Rice. why are you being so stupid. were you a business magor?

houston population is directly related to the price of oil. you know that, right?

we invented big scale AC in the early '60s. you know that, right. Yet houstons populatio explosion didnt happen until the 70s oil boom

oil not AC created the houston boom

from one Rice grad to another. do you really talk like this in public

Not without infrastructure or irrigation, gas lines alone are a million bucks a mile.

Well no, that's fundamentally against life and liberty and would implicitly mandate federal abortion funds and clinics; but maybe we could dispense free condoms in hotel rooms, public bathrooms and every clinic and high school nurse's office in the country.

Well I don't think that a lot of the urban families will go ahead to have a second child.
The law allowed them to have already since 2-3 years ago but the bump was lower than the government expected.
Most of modern Chinese young adults and kids are only childs, and most of them dont' even have cousins or have only a few cousins.
They havent' learned to share and the cost of living in the cities is too much for most of them and getting their kids to a good university -which is the no.1 priority for them.
Really doubt most of the families will start having a second child immediately.
The law has managed to change their culture on that to a significant degree.
