I've done something similar before. I can't remember what it was (like you, I've been here a while, but my memory can take a hike from time to time, like now), but I got all worked up, made a post about whatever it was, and then someone pointed out, much to my dismay, that the topic was a couple of years old.

Heck, I was all set to praise one of my favorite countries, Sweden!

Sweden's nazi party is slowly taking control of Sweden and putting up racist slogans, making racist speeches, hinting at borderline holocaust behavior towards people who are now part of a Swedish government process to deal with their status. So this is not unusual that some gangs could incite this kind of chaos.

Arrest the perpetrators and stop conflating them with all the asylum seekers. There are reasons to protest, and most of them were protesting. That's part of Swedish democracy.

However, the gangs among them broke the law in a terrible way and should be held accountable. Don't forget that these are all people who slept with bombs landing near their heads while they slept for the last few years. They have regularly seen lost family members, seen murder, death, starvation, destruction of the ISIS and Taliban kind and these are regular people who a few years ago had a desk job or went to school or did some gardening. It would be a miracle if they weren't suffering from severe PTSD and/or TBI. These are not well adjusted people, and there's a nazi party provoking them on a daily basis. That's not to say any of this is acceptable, but it is certainly not surprising. If I go and prod a psychologically damaged war veteran about going back to the war zone, I'm going to get punched in the face. And that's a person who actually signed up to go to war.

You're not going to go through the life they've been through only to arrive somewhere and watch someone talk about ending your life callously, describing you in the same way they discover animal herds, talking about cleansing the country of you. That's what it means to these people. "Get out of sweden now that you're here" means go to Syria/Afghanistan/Libya and get killed or die of starvation or join ISIS immediately, incuding your wife and children if you have any. You can't be saying **** like that to people who just escaped the trauma of dying any moment. These are human beings, and most of them just want to work and have peace. They don't want anything to do with these 20 yr old violent gangs.

The real amazing thing is how little attention is paid in these articles to why they are protesting and why the violent rioters are different. It's the subtle dehumanization of a large group of people by simply stating a vaguely large group of them engaged in violence and not providing any serious or significant analysis of why that's happening. Really disgusting stuff overall from the anti-immigrants and the gangs.

Seems like fake news thread should be locked since it's obviously working on others and there is a migration in Europe thread already.

Using a qualifier like "still relevant, though" doesn't contribute to the discussion, since the original post was based on misleading content.

The way misinformation is used to cement one's mindset is fascinating to me, was the simple point being made.
