Hard nose my ass. I am not even going to talk about his X's and O's. This team has no discipline whatsoever. He allows our players to jack up ill-advised shots early in the shot every ****ing game. He never called Harden out on the defensive end the way Tom T did in the USA team. So what does he do exactly? No wonder our players love him to death because they can do whatever they want under McHale. But an undisciplined team will never win a championship.

Just take a look the championship coaches in the past all of them have been great X's and O's coaches.

Kevin McHale is the Rockets' Mark Jackson. The Rockets need to find their Steve Kerr.

I disagree that McHale isn't a good coach in the X-and-O sense. What I do find troubling about him are:

    1) his reluctance to expand his rotation when he's got such a deep team

    and

    2) his inability to get the team to give a consistently strong effort.

That second one is the one that really bothers me. Sure, on some level it's up to the players to give that effort, but the best coaches always seem to have their team ready to play. Too often this Rockets team either shows up not ready, or mentally checks out at the first sign of adversity. It's the coach's job to make sure that doesn't happen.

Actually Mchale admitted he is not. Ex Minnesota players used to call his board etch e sketch. Mchale was brought in Minnesota to develop young players, which he has done here but he is not a big X's and O's guy it's well documented. Morey wanted a yes man, players coach with a big name is what I suspect. That last sentence is obviously just opinion the rest is fact.

Our quote of the day comes from Nuggets vet Anthony Carter, a former Timberwolves guard, who tells Chris Tomasson of the Rocky Mountain News that recycled Minnesota coach Kevin McHale should "be a lot better" this time around.
"It was a learning experience," said Carter, who will see McHale and the Timberwolves on Wednesday at the Pepsi Center. "He didn't really know all the X's and O's, but he had a good assistant coaching staff that was helping him out with a lot of plays. He kind of let us run whatever we wanted.
"He was trying to draw plays, and it was like a little Etch and Sketch. Like a kid just messing around. ... He just gave the clipboard to the assistant coaches sometimes."

Im sure you worship at watts alter but hes had subpar games this year.

Obviously you cant gasp the impact of a competent coach. Look at Adelman (a great coach) winning with a subpar rockets team vs mchale (subpar coach) with great talent playing like a lottery team.

Phil Jackson getting snubbed in favor mike dantoni with a very talented lakers team yet had mediocre results. Phil wouldve had that team clicking.

Plethera of other examples but its obvious you dont grasp that.

Of course McHale would say that -- he's not the kind of guy to claim he's a great strategic coach.

I'm not saying he's on a level with Adelman, but he's not the total basketball idiot some guys here claim him to be.

Other aspects of his coaching bother me more than his play-calling.

If we don't win as many games as we did last season he should be fired, no doubt.

No I didn't say great, I said good. You need to be good at the most basic aspect of your job and he and ex players admit he is not. A lot of us knew this, that's why McHale was a head scratcher of a choice for coach.

    You make zero sense.

Watt has a terrible coach this year and he's still having a monster year.

I had my doubts that he could ever lead us to a NBA Championship, but we did improve last in the out going season. This year, we have shown regression with more talent despite our injuries and additions.

The responsibility of success and failure lies mostly on the players, but coaching plays a big part in it too. McHale isn't a championship caliber coach IMO.
