Except neither of these is likely true, if you look at the actual circumstances or pitches they were hit on.

Exactly this. Pitching inside and throwing at guys are 2 totally different things.

I can't see Kazmir getting that. That is basically what Feldman got when you adjust for inflation of salaries.

I would think he'd get something closer to what Shields got last offseason.

I agree. I think he'll get more too, probably considerably more. Heck, the qualifying offer amount is $15.8M, and even with his struggles down the stretch, he was also flat out dominant for stretches of the season as well. That is why I would jump on that deal, because I think it would be a steal for the Astros. Let's hope others in the market feel like this guy who guessed 3/36, as it will at least suppress his market just a little.

The fact is that he has out performed his FIP consistently over a very large sample size so I personally am not concerned about that. It is some what rare, but not unheard of, just like some hitters maintain a higher BABIP than most.

    ERA the last 5 years
    2.31
    2.78
    2.82
    2.25
    3.44

That is 5 seasons with a cumulative era of sub 3.00 era.

Personally I don't know if I would sign Cueto, but I would seriously consider it if the money being discussed is only 20-30 million more than Alex Gordon and 70-75 million less than Price.

I suspect he gets more as well. I don't think he will get 4/75 like James Shields got. Kazmir has serious medical issues and doesn't have near the durability that Shields does, James was coming off 8 straight seasons of 200 innings, something Kazmir has only done once in his career.

I have reviewed the circumstances (imminent sweep of the Royals, first two games not that close, home runs by Altuve and Springer in the first two games) and the actual pitches; I find it to be more likely than not that they were beaned. I don't really distinguish throwing inside, where a batter has to fall backwards to avoid getting hit, with intentional beaning. Guys are likely to get hurt with both pitches, irrespective of intent to scare or intent to actually hit. And I saw both guys get hit without an opportunity to fall back, they weren't leaning in to the pitch a la Biggio circa 1999. You can Google the Royals other brawls (which is also true) with the Athletics for beaning guys, as well as the White Sox and the Blue Jays. Volquez and Ventura are goons (but talented goons) and their reputations are known around the league.

My general guess would be 4/$60M.

You didn't review your circumstances very well - it's something you want to believe and made up facts to fit the narrative you want to create. The Royals were ahead in the game (by 1 run) when Springer got hit. That wouldn't make sense with them hitting him because they were getting swept.

And I don't think you quite understand KC's pitching philosophy going inside - it's neither to scare nor hit people.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree here. My initial post was that KC likes to bean guys and therefore they're easy to hate. There's many stories about Ventura and Volquez beaning other players which have started brawls this year, here's one:

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...l-yordano-ventura-chicago-white-sox/26295489/

Those guys have certainly pitched inside to hit people. They did it to Josh Donaldson and Tulowitski near the end of the season. So my "narrative" is shared by many, including national columnists. I think all my facts were correct, feel free to correct any that were wrong. I get it that you don't like my conclusion, but there are many that agree with me.

How much would a guy like Matt Wieters cost? He's missed a lot of games the past couple of years but I think he could be a good addition

There is NO DOUBT that KC has a reputation of coming in and hitting guys. We can all try to get in their heads, and say what they are thinking, or whatever . . . . but they come in and come in hard, and they could care less if they injure people while doing so....that is impossible to argue against (although some will try)

No one disputes that. Not sure why the inner 4-6" off the plate necessarily belongs to the hitter though, that's the inner edge of the batter's box. You're taught to pitch hard up and in around hand level, down and in with breaking stuff, but never around the head .

Pitching in works. Yes you will hit people, but I don't have a problem with the strategy/mindset at all.

Batters should gear up their hands/wrists, even elbows, if that's what they're comfortable with.

    I don't disagree

But it shouldn't be surprising that a lot of people hate KC because of it

Nolan wasnt popular with a lot

Roger wasn't popular with a lot

I wish we had someone in our rotation with that mentality, although I don't think Luhnow and AJ want that

I understand the dislike, hell I'd embrace it if I was a Royals fan.

It's not really pertinent to the offseason, I just thought it was funny. I was looking at Springer's BBR page and I noticed his High School. Apparently Springer went to Hogwarts.

Actual pictures from his high school

If I remembered those books better, I'd make a joke about what position he'd play on the quriddich team.

You know who else went to school there?
