Its was the first year they did them - and they started them for a reason because I am sure the players were upset that Media and not their peers determined who was the best. Otherwise there was no real need for them.

Sure behind the scenes players talk and they know, but there is always something to formally recognizing someone for it.

If the players awards die out in a few years then I would agree with you they are pretty meaningless, but if they end up staying I wouldnt be suprised at all if there is some sort of partial compromise where the league states players votes account for a portion of the MVP count and the media counts for the rest. Much like the compromise with All Star game starters/bench.

Again the players wanted these awards - so I wouldn't call them a gimmick. There is definitely an issue and its becoming more and more apparent to the media-voted awards, especially when it comes to DPOY.

Think about it this way with your job - would you considering being recognized by your fellow co-workers and bosses more important than a third party that looks in from the outside? These media folks aren't stupid obviously, some are former players and all, but they vote for what will help their company/network/themselves over what probably should be the actual winner.

To me I've said it plenty of times - I have no issue with Curry winning the MVP last season. It wasn't like Harden lost to like Blake Griffin - it was Curry who was having a historical season himself. Issue I had was how lopsided the voting actually was. I expected to be closer than what it was and I think that was upset Harden. Expected a close race and it was a landslide for Curry. Same with Kawhi last year - more than worthy in being a DPOY but he missed so much of the season. I believe the years when M.Gasol and Tyson Chandler won their DPOY they weren't even All-NBA Defensive First team (Chandler AND Noah were the Centers the year Gasol won on the first team and Dwight was when Chandler won his DPOY) So there is clearly a distinct difference when you have media voting vs the coaches voting.

Give Chef Curry his credit, the dude was on fire last night. Ish was trying to give it back to him but doesn't have enough in offensive game. We must run Chef into as many PnR as possible to take his legs away. No disrespect to Bev, JT, or Prig, they couldn't finish at the rim or pass effective enough to keep the defense honest. I'm looking forward to seeing what Ty can do on both ends. I would like for us to really focus in on making Curry play D and let's see what happens.

rememmber when ethan strauss and amin elhassin said harden was thirsty for the media spotlight haha... im shocked they didnt mention riley curry this time

btw neither klay nor curry can guard harden when he is locked in, it took a team effort from gsw to slow down harden

exactly. If they kick our butts again this season, we can hate them all we want, but they have scoreboard.

isn't curry implying that lawson is that good, thus having to play defense. as to before, it was bev and terry? either way is his mom going to be at the game...

pretty sure he is being sarcastic, and doesn't agree that he did not play defense last year (whether he did or not I am not sure, but I have heard his lack of defense has been exaggerated.)

I have no beef with his comments. Ty said something first, he responded. No big deal. Really looking forward to our game against them. Round 1. Let's get it.

...only that's not what Ty said. What he said was, that Steph didn't HAVE to exert a lot of energy on defense IN THE PLAYOFFS - which, well is true...All starting PGs he went up against were either injured or didn't play at all.

Oh yeah and GO ROCKETS!!! GAMEEEEEEEEDAAAAAYYY :):):)

Why? Sure some of them act like douchebags, but there's no shaming losing to one of the most historic teams and a historic shooter.

    Yes, read the thread:

And these were after someone had pointed that it was a jest to something Ty said earlier.

The players are not a good judge of anything - they are like High School prom king and queen voting for their friends.

Curry is the MVP, deserved to be, and is better than anyone else in the league.

The player will always prefer the highest individual award that they've dreamed of since they were little, thats been around for 50+ years. Those NBAPA awards are as important as the 10 seconds the players take to thank for it. Theres a reason why Harden has specifically brought up being MVP on plenty occasions and obviously for good reason. Because its definitely way more important to him.
