I don't think TAMU was even ranked going into the year. Teams as young as TAMU and thin on the 2nd and 3rd levels on defense aren't usually juggernauts. Not in the SEC anyways. Yet you think Sumlin is underachieving and on the hot seat... So it's bad to have nice facilities and NFL talent? The team hasn't been good enough to win a title yet, it is what is. We don't have a Saban, Carroll or Meyer. Who else is going to come in and win a title overnight? Sumlin has recruited freshmen and 2nd year players "who have actually been playing pretty well considering we started out against a bunch of ranked opponents" (LULZ). So congrats to you? You cant even verify if broken promises to 5 stars is even a fact.
Bitter? No, not at all. Just pointing out facts. Nobody knows what the promise was but there seems to most def have been a promise that is not being upheld, at least according to the Murray's and reporters. That can affect recruiting big time if players get the feeling they cant trust the HC. Recruiting is a fickle thing by nature and can change dramatically in a year, but atm has been doing well but if the results dont come well who knows. Also, the team that has gained the most since the SEC move in regards to recruiting is Alabama. Which is exactly what nobody in Texas wanted. You already had LSU taking all the recruits but now Bama is getting their pick of the litter too. http://espn.go.com/blog/sec/insider/post?id=108550
1. Its been 4 years and you arent even ranked in the preseason yet you look to this as a positive for your team. Ok. 2. This is the best stretch of football..for aggies. Which equates to like a .500 record in the SEC and a losing record to ranked opponents. Sumlin is living off of Manziel and the year he had, but the atm fans I know and the ones on pay sites were and should have been expecting more. If he loses to LSU and Auburn than yeah, that seat is getting mighty warm. 3. Thanks for the congrats? but the credit should go to strong and staff for having their players showing some improvement after starting out with arguably the nations toughest schedule. 4. Its not bad to have nice things, but if thats how you measure it then enjoy being Georgia West, with your top classes and draft picks but no titles in recent memory. 5. You're absolutely right I cant verify anything. All I can do is read what is written by aTm people like John Lopez and the insiders on pay sites. Most people agree something was promised and whatever happened Kyler cursed out a coach and his family seems very upset.
John Lopez? Who is that? This guy? http://houston.cbslocal.com/2015/03/16/texans-no-longer-in-wilfork-free-agent-stakes/ You're kidding me, right? Briles has been at Baylor almost 10 years, it usually takes some time. TAMU is not tOSU, Sumlin is not Pete Carroll.
For what it's worth, multiple writers/pay sites reported that Sumlin promised Murray a certain number of snaps. More likely rehashing others info but I remember this being rumored when Murray decided to stick with A&M.
Young? Are you the same guy here with this excuse 2 years ago? Serious question. Youth is the eternal excuse all college programs can use. This is Sumlin's 4th year. If it weren't for Johnny Football the one year, Sumlin never would have gotten that huge raise two years ago. Without a Manziel or Keenum (both of whom I believe he inherited), Sumlin's teams are mediocre. Your optimism in the face of evidence is fine, but most of us here are realists.
They're young. Look at the roster. It's a young team. Sorry it's young, bro. Sumlin went out and recruited three 5 star QB's. It's not like he cant recruit quarterbacks. I don't expect Texas A&M to get 10 wins every year right now, that's simply the fact of it, that's realistic expectations. Sumlin hasn't done anything to warrant firing or bestowing as some genius. But I'm sensible enough to give him some time. It's ridiculous I have to read about TAMU not being able to recruit in the near future due to mediocre finishes, and within the same exact post I have to hear about UT being on some sort of recruiting bonanza when they're finishing with mediocre records -- all of this in the TAMU thread (thanks). What kind of pee-pee game logic is that? TAMU recruits, they brought in Chavis, Garrett and Mack look unbelievable, Sumlin has been at the helm of several good offenses. I'm 100% excited about the future.
Considering we were picked to finish 6th in the west were actually overachieving this year and were on pace to finish 9-3. People who really know this team knew this wasnt the year to get excited about, it was next year with year 2 of Chavis and a defense with depth, as well as another year for kyler/allen in the offense. Sumlin inherited Manziel, yes, but he also was the one who played him. Sherman would of kicked him off the team after the arrest.
It's OK to be excited. But from my standpoint, Sumlin is what he is and hasn't changed a bit. I'll be surprised if they ever win the SEC championship game. In the SEC with Sumlin, I see A&M similar to Mike Leach's Tech teams in the Big 12.
Frankly I thought it was common knowledge that TAMU wasn't expected to do very well this year. If Skip Bayless predicted them to win the SEC or something I don't know what to say.
Who said anything about UT being on a recruiting bonanza?? Though, now that you mention it, we did have a higher ranked class last year. But honestly I dont understand why its so hard to comprehend that lying to recruits and finishing in the middle of the pack is not the best way to keep ensuring top flight talent. But like you said it took Briles a long time and I guess if you want to keep Sumlin around for a decade thats on you. With aTm it's always 'Next Year!'
And wait, holy crap, is the Tennessee at 5? No way, they cant recruit, they're haven't been winning - wowwwwww.
A&M-College Station can't keep using the "young" excuse. Sumlin's been there too long for that. Bottom line is that they beat up on the early season cupcakes then struggle to be a .500 conference performer.
Why are you so angry? Why do up you even care about the Aggies? The Aggies aren't even in Big 12. The Aggies have moved on, so should UT fans.
LOL That sounds like anger to you? And I dont think I was even responding directly to you. But I suppose I shouldnt discuss the aggies on a sports internet forum because we arent in the same conference? We are in the same state recruiting the same players soooo yeah, dont know why I shouldnt be discussing them.
[ picture upload sites I used 247 rankings, didnt just make it up. Also, for whatever reason Tennessee is an outlier and has always recruited quite well no matter how theyve been doing going back as far as like 2007. But maybe aTm will be another outlier?
Maybe you'll get a life and worry about UT or at least teams in your conference. You have more money and the same conference record, go post about that. "I used 247" lulz.
You don't really want to "discuss" Aggie football. You just want to crap on Texas A&M. Coming into this thread and referring to Sumlin as "Stumblin". Saying you hope "Stumblin" keeps cycling coordinators to remain a 500 million rebuild. Look at the UT thread. I don't see any recent posts where Aggies fans are calling the coach names, and just trying to crap on the football program. Seems rather classless on your part. I'm not an Aggie, but I do root for the Aggies now that they are in the SEC. I also root for the Longhorns in the Big 12. I'd like to see both programs do well.
