You are using the wrong word. 'Racism' is not the word you should be using here. In fact, there's not really a word for it, but it is a natural phenomenon encountered in all human beings - it's a form of 'short-hand' our brains use to instantly fill in unknown blanks when meeting someone new, based upon previous experience. Race however is only ONE of a multitude of variables we use every day, hundreds of times, to inform us about the world in which we live and move and function. Are these 'short-cuts' always right? No, of course not; in fact they can often be wrong. But it's natural. Part of being human is learning how to understand these impulses, and how to exert our willpower over our unseen instincts, learning about ourselves and when certain of these short-cuts is regularly giving us incorrect information - we CAN change them through effort. What you are doing is seizing upon the sensation you receive from this phenomenon and calling it racism, because for whatever reason, it makes you feel guilty in some way. But it, in and of itself, is not racism. It can be a component OF racism, in a person who is actively racist, but the one does not imply the other. So relax. Do a little self-reflection, and try to get a handle on why these impulses make you feel the way you do. And stop assuming everyone is racist, because it's not true.
Racist means you dislike an actual race, and I think a huge majority of people are not actually racist. Discrimination is another story. We all discriminate for/against virtually every person we meet based on any number of factors (race, clothes, height, voice pitch and tone, etc). It is likely not intentional, but anyone that says they do not is a complete and utter liar in my opinion.
I made a similar thread years ago and it was locked and or deleted. Someone already beat me to the punch, but I hate all races equally, including my own.
Its not your fault. I love cilantro. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/20/cilantro-aversion-gene-study_n_1901124.html
surprising that a guy who professes to have stereotyping tendencies can see racism so easily in others. who woulda thunk it?
You are a douche brother. What? are we supposed to share who we feel the same about? bet you'd never share that in person..
