I was really surprised that they let Fitz go. He had a great season last year until he got hurt and is doing extremely well again this year.

It's a cluster, no doubt. I just think the defense is an even BIGGER cluster this year.

Hoyer is 15th in the league in passer rating, while our vaunted defense (strength of the team!!) is 28th in the league in points per game. It would be 31st if Atlanta and Miami hadn't taken their foot off the gas in the 2nd half of both of those games.

Joe Montana couldn't win games here with the defense giving up 28 points per game.

And (theoretically, at least) the QB problem can be solved with 1 draft pick. The defense is going to take a lot longer to fix. Scary when you think about how many 1st round picks and high priced FA's have already been brought in to fix it. And it still BLOWS CHIMPS.

Defenses routinely get rebuilt with coaching and scheme - we've seen it ourselves when Wade Philips came on board. People made the same claims about how horrible the talent was on defense/etc at the time and we became good-to-great overnight.

QB can certainly be fixed with a single draft pick - but it takes a few years for a QB to develop. The quicker you start that process, the quicker you have a chance to be good. If you build the defense and then get a QB, by the time the QB is reaching their potential in year 3 or 4, the defense will probably be regressing. This is why QB should have been priority #1 when BOB first got here. And this year. And next year. And every year going forward until they solve it.

TJ welcome back to one of THE worst run professional franchises in North America. Then again, having been here previously, you already knew this. It's a paycheck from your perspective.

They are garbage time all-stars... helps when BOB keeps the starters in against 4th stringers...

Agree with all of this. Just making the point (granted, probably in the wrong thread) that we seem to be spending so much time talking about cutting our backup QB and signing a new backup QB instead of talking about how monumentally horrible our defense has been this year when it was supposed to be the strength of the team.

I would even say it's been a bigger problem this year than the QB soap opera currently going on.

Coaching and scheme were certainly important... so was adding JJ Watt, Jonathan Joseph and Daniel Manning, which the Texans did in addition to hiring Phillips.

The TJ Yates I remember was still pretty young and rew. Maybe this one is an older, wiser one. Or maybe I'm just trying to psych myself into watching the rest of the games.

    Fitz sucks.

Its just that next to Hoyer and Mallett, Fitz looks like Brady.

Tebow doesn't fit ... not the type of QB O'Brien wants anyway.
