Remember the leaks about how Clowney wasn't a hard worker? Turned out he needed surgery It's a BOB thing.
So who was responsible for picking Clowney then? If the idea is that BOB leaked that, then I can only assume he wouldn't make that kind of comment about a guy he really wanted the team to draft. So that pick was Rick's? Will we ever know?
Point taken, but if we go into that game with 1 QB and he gets hurt (not exactly a far-fetched scenario) and we have to put in a punter because we cut the only other QB on the roster the night before, I think we're even a bigger laughingstock than we are right now (if that's possible...).
If I had to guess, it was someone trying to stick up for OB, either Bernhardt or Godsey. O'Brien has been far from perfect this year and IS a huge part of the problem right now, mostly because of how he mangled the QB situation going into week two, but if I'm in charge I am dropping Rick Smith and Crennel today and seeing what the rest of this year and how the start of next year play out before considering firing OB.
As someone else mentioned, Zac Dysert is on practice squad and I think they could have found a way to get him to Miami by Saturday night. Not the ideal situation to have to throw a rookie in like that but we wouldn't have had nobody behind Hoyer. Assuming that they did decide to get rid of him, what point would there be to keeping him through the season? So that he can lead the scouting staff for a draft that he won't be around for and that you don't trust him with? There really aren't any major roster decisions to be made between now and end of season. The real fool in all of this is Bob McNair. Should have hired an experienced GM right before the HC hire, then had the GM pick the coach and there would be no question who makes the decisions. Now even if you do bring in a new GM, how is that person going to assume control over OB?
Well it would be the most impactful thing they've done all season that football wise is in the toilet begging to be flushed.
Since the Texans basically went into the game with 0 quality QBs, I'm not sure it would have mattered. They probably should just put JJ Watt back there, since he is superhuman. It wouldn't be fair to the rest of the team to be down to Mallet.
Scouts are scouts. All they do is prepare reports. The most common time to fire a GM is at the end of the season (black Monday)
EXACTLY. So if the rumor is true. Why hasn't O'Brien cut him now? It is no longer game day. It is now Tuesday. Now he's talking about dealing with it internally. Any word on what position group they are trying out this week?
I understand keeping him for emergency purposes on Sunday but if he is on the roster after today then Smith should be fired tomorrow. (He should be fired anyway)
Brian T. Smith @ChronBrianSmith 11h11 hours ago Relationship between second-year O'Brien, 10-year GM Smith has worsened during #Texans' disappointing 2-5 start to 2015 season #Texans could cut Mallett on Tuesday. But it won't repair growing divide between O'Brien's vision for team and Smith's say in organization.
Didn't mallett promise he wouldn't mess up again to Rick smiths face on hard knocks? And smith said that's a big promise. Well it happened again Rick.
The funny thing to me is Rick overruling B'OB probably did more to make Rick look bad than B'OB. Because had we been in that mess Sunday with only Hoyer as the true QB, we would all be LAMBASTING O'Brien this week for not having a viable option to replace Hoyer with after that flaming anus of a first half. Instead he has Mallett but won't put him in because of missing the flight. I'm seriously, seriously getting sick of this team. It feels like the rot goes straight to the core at this point. Just gut everything. GM, coaches, I don't care. I want to feel like my team has a future even if they are crap now. This team feels like it has no future and sure as hell has no present. What are we even doing here at this point?
I thought I read somewhere that Smith wanted a different coach but McNair wanted O'Brien. If this is truly causing a problem then I'm all for canning a GM mid-season. But if the Texans still play mediocre football, other heads will probably be rolling too.
