NewYorker must have suffered a brain injury at some point in time... Perhaps a lawn dart from a frat house party next door to him or perhaps an old man in India ****ting on a stick and then beating him in the face without mercy.

Still no. The study only looked at two geographic regions (north and south) and looked at two different skin colors (white and black). Not a exactly a sufficient sample size.

That's not what sample size means.

I will say this, it was nice to see the kids who saw all of the drawn characters as the same, regardless of skin color.

And for those saying that sample size wasn't large enough, what's the argument? That if more kids were interviewed, the results wouldn't show a bias toward lighter colored people? I mean, that's the bigger issue here, right? Based on the people challenging the study itself or other posters, I get the sense that some are refusing to believe that biases with regard to skin color exist in America today. Just want to see if I'm clear on that.

I honestly think based on his insults and level of discourse he might just be a teenager so it might be worth taking easy on him (which is why I just ignore him).

Well they aren't questioning the sample size but rather that they only spoke to black kids and white kids, only Americans, and only in two geographic regions. Doesn't matter if it was 10,000 kids, what matters is that it was only blacks and whites.

What we are seeing is people serve as apologists for racism, likely because they are biased themselves and also because they are so programmed they simply resist anything that contradicts their world view - similar to global warming and dinosaurs having walked the earth

Come on now: if not everyone is racist, but only some children are racist, then racism is OK. Duh.

And if this "experiment" gave kids an opportunity to be racist against red- or blue-colored pictures, then that would prove that racism is not real. Duh x 2.

And if the "experiment" gave some red and blue kids a chance to be racist, then that would also prove that racism is not real. Duh x 3.

And the people who did these "experiment" were trying to get racist results, coz they were trying to make profits off people who love racism. omg do I need to say duh?

You guys who dislike racism are basically racist against racists. Which is not a bad thing. But you should realize ur a small sample size, and there are lots of colored people out there who are also racist against racists, and by excluding them from this thread, you destroy the validity of your anti-racistism.

Did u ever think how you make racists feel when you imply that their ideas are immoral and stupid, which are two separate condemnations? How about giving racists the support that they need to succeed in the world, rather than ghettoizing them into this "self-centered jackass" pigeonhole??????!?!?

And what fundamental problem do you think that is?

Just as a reminder, they said they did this so they could directly compare with the 1940's study which only looked at black and white.

I know! Almost as bad as "Lou" posting under "NewYorker" as a racist Republican for years on this board, then admitting it, and then proceeding to make nonsensical posts for several years about race on virtually every single topic.

    Too serious.

This is a pilot study sponsor and I assume paid by CNN. I don't trust anything much from the like of CNN in portraying a pilot study. Yes, I'm bias against major news network.

It's a pilot study. Its preliminary data that would need a full follow up and more extensive study to reach conclusion. It's only suggestive and can sometimes be wrong in both that and poor and lacking in method. That's what a pilot is.

CNN pushing this is probably trying to gauge if enough audience care to paid for a more expensive and extensive study.

If you take this as conclusive, by scientific standard, you jumped the gun (and applying your own strong bias).

It was conducted by a university of Chicago researcher against 130 students - if this was a medical study it's results would have been considered shocking and significant. You're talking results of over 60% of the students showing bias - that's statistically significant.

Regardless of it being a pilot, the methodology is sound and the results are strong enough to be conclusive regarding the fact that bias is real and definitive.

The fact that these guys are trying to attack me personally as a way to distract from the videos is proof that they hit a cord. No one is actually discussing the results here. That's pretty sad and pathetic.

I'm curious about trying this with my kids.

I can remember my cousin being sad at a fast food place because the doll in her kids meal had the wrong color skin.

We have pilot studies where after expanding (not just in scope by better methodology) show a very different result.

I have my bias and I personally think the results is not that far off and is about right for older kids. But I won't take this study as any more proof than my own bias.

Then in that case it is apples and oranges. Without an actual sample size of what today's American society what is the point of discussing the study?

I think they're being apologists for little kids: who often lack compassion, logic or fairness when engaging various types of situations; because they're too busy learning how to gather and process basic information, and they're too inexperienced to accurately interpret threats or opportunities.

So it's ok for little kids to think black kids are uglier, dumber, and more likely to be behave poorly?

    Oh, they are just kids!!!

    Interesting.
