Your very first line in the OP states that we think we live in a "post-racial society". Straw man number one.

As I said to a previous member, this isn't journalism - it's sensationalism. The reporter offers up an assumption to explain the bias from the tests but offers no supporting evidence. Poor reporting by someone who did a good job moderating a debate just a week ago.

It's not a strawman. Many conservatives DO claim that racism is no longer an issue or even exists in America today!

Second of all, forget about the parents comment - I'm talking about the fact that kids all think darker kids are more likely to be ugly, dumb, and criminal.

That was a pretty scientific and convincing aspect - and should be shocking and disturbing to you.

Are you saying that you agree that there is inherent bias against blacks, or are you saying there is not?

That's not a straw man argument. You don't know what a straw man argument is.

A straw man argument is when you avoid the real argument by attacking and defeating a similar-sounding argument, for example:

A: "The Iraq war is bad."
B: "Our soldiers in Iraq are giving their lives to protect our country, and I support our soldiers 100% even if you don't!"

Person B is using a straw man argument about supporting the soldiers, when that is not the argument that A put forward, and it has no necessary relationship to A's argument.

The OP's original argument is that we do not live in a post-racial society. By definition, it cannot be a straw man argument, because it is the original argument.

OP did not state, as you claim he does, "we think we live in a 'post-racial society.'" Go back and read again.

I saw this. At about the 3rd grade the white kids said they couldn't be friends with kids of color, it was impossible.

This test had so many non-control factors. It was biased and simplistic in itself. Just not a good way to conduct an experiment..

That's a different topic all together.

I'm just saying it seems inappropriate of a reporter to offer up a claim like he did without offering up any evidence. He didn't even present the question to a researcher as a followup or anything like that.

Agreed there should have been a better way to conduct this experiment.

This obsession with pushing black people as the only victims of racism is strange and mindboggling.

Forget the reporter. I'm talking about bias in kids. Why can't you comment on the study and not the reporter!?!?

This bias might be present in other societies and might have nothing to do with parenting. The study is also way too simple to make any real conclusion about the cause. For instance, there are no other racial groups involved, no other countries involved, etc.

    It's not about parenting.

And it's about our society. It's not too simplistic, it's a legit study - the sample size is enough to raise real questions and it's shocking.

How was it biased? Which factors needed to be controlled for?

I see people trying to dismiss this and sweep bias under the rug and look the other way.

What about our society? Could you be more specific than just mild generalizations?

The sample size btw is way too small - it doesn't account for other skin colors or ethnicities, and limits itself to America.

This is an actual beating up of a straw man.
Posters throw this term around too much in the D&D. This is an actual instance where it is merited.

Do you even know what the sample size was and it's p value?

I mean, you are attacking but not with any substantiation. It is only about our society. I don't understand what your issue is here.

There were clear presentation of statistics in the study - did you watch the videos?

Clearly you are far too emotionally driven for a reasonable debate.

I think you should watch the videos before you post so you don't come across as a total moron.
