You would likely be choosing a QB from this list.

List of NFL free-agent quarterbacks is cringeworthy

    Rex Grossman
    Jason Campbell
    Matt Flynn
    Jordan Palmer
    Jared Lorenzen
    Tyler Thigpen

And for good measure... Tim Tebow & Vince Young. Even Vick will likely be available in a couple weeks once Big Ben is back.

    Take your pick.

Seems evident that Mallet is a douchey dope with enough arm strength to be a perennial tease to any team with non-existent QB talent.

Mallet knows the Texans have no other options beside him so it seems like he's doing all this to spite them. Hes like, "what are you gonna do? cut me? then whos backing up?" What an idiot, though. He could have tried to win his job back but since hes a cry baby, OB didn't even think once about putting him in and I'm glad he never did.

The idiot could have a long career as a third stringer and he could be out of the league instead

It won't be hard to find another QB who checks down, throws the ball in the dirt, and is wildly inaccurate in general.

May not to be able to find that arm strength though.... which is useless if you don't know where the ball is going.

Wtf there are mallet only fans?!

At this point I'm surprised any Texans fans support the guy at all any more.

Cut him, bring in TJ Yates. TJ spend a off season in the system so you would think he could pick it up quick.

Isn't there a spare McCown brother lying around that Houston can pick up?

Honestly, I don't care who it is. Grab one and go. A backup QB on a bad team isn't worth the cost of losing your team because you tell them being a "good teammate" is super important....and then keep around a guy who can't find a way to show up on time.

Apparently, Brady was asked if Mallett was that big of a knucklehead in New England.

    His response?

After a long pause, "I'm not sure."

    Yeah, cut this guy.

He should be cut and I'm a bit disappointed it hasn't been announced already. I don't care how bad the free agent options are. While they could, in theory, be worse, they'd likely be better teammates.

I just read the last few pages and I cant believe the discussion of Mallett/Hoyer is still coming up.

Hoyer is up here and Mallett is down here, if we are comparing their QB skills. Hoyer is nothing but an average to below average QB in the NFL...but Mallett is a 3rd stringer, at best. The fact that bobby STILL argues otherwise is hilarious.

Honestly, I wouldnt care if Mallett was good and he missed the team flight or a practice. I just want someone competent on the field. Mallett is the ultimate crap QB...he has no touch, no accuracy, no brain.

Throwing the ball 104 mph is really only good if you are playing carnival games where you are trying to knock down some object 5 yards away. Even then, you still have to hit the target, so Im not even sure if Mallett would win the stuffed animal hanging from the corner of the tent.

What I find funny is that you think Hoyer is a starting caliber QB in the NFL despite nearly all of the evidence outside of garbage time being to the contrary this season.

Neither QB is starting caliber, but Hoyer is next level awful in games where there is going to be a pass rush. If you haven't figured that out yet, you probably will in the next few games. Yesterday before garbage time, Hoyer had one of the worst QB performances I've ever seen at the NFL level.

First off, Hoyer has a career QB rating of 81. How is that not good enough to be a starter? It's not good...but there are plenty of starting QBs that are on the same level. For one, Ryan Fitzpatrick, who's sporting a career 79.9 rating.

Secondly, not many QBs in the NFL handle pressure well. Mallett was 0-16 earlier in the year when pressured...it doesnt get worse than that.

Nobody here is pumped that we are having to start Hoyer on our team, when we've had other opportunities to figure out the QB situation. However, if we are comparing just Mallett vs. Hoyer, you are the only one that cant admit to the fact that you were wrong. Hoyer is a much, much better NFL QB than Mallett. OB has chosen Hoyer as the starting QB, so we are correct. Isnt that the narrative you used when Mallett was the QB? Lol.
