The funniest thing I heard last night was ARod say that if he had 1 pick to start a franchise with, he'd pick.........Hosmer!

Astros lost the next game too, so theirs was worse.

Franchise has suffered bigger failures though.

Right after the game, as they were showing the Hosmer hit that scored Cain (which was more about Cain's great base running), A-Rod was rambling about what a great player Hosmer was and that if he had a pick for a player to start a franchise with, it'd be Hosmer.

Hosmer is known as the best secret-keeper in baseball.

And... I don't think the Astros long-term approach is to fill their line-ups with strike-out prone power hitters; that is not the organizational mandate - just look at their drafts under Luhnow.

This year was a bit stop-gap(ish); I don't think they ever viewed guys like Gattis, Rasmus or Valbuena as part of the team's nucleus moving forward. Carter likely wasn't, either.

I don't think they would trade for Gattis if he wasn't viewed as part of the team's nucleus.

Valbuena, Rasmus, & Lowrie were stopgaps.

    They traded for Valbuena.....

Gattis will turn 30 next season; if they original idea was that Correa would be here full-time in 2016, then Gattis was likely not considered a part of the team's long-term plans.

They traded away a year of Fowler, for 2 years of Valbuena and the added bonus of Dan Straily. Valbuena played a position of need.

They traded away 3 prospects to get 4 years of Evan Gattis.

does anyone else rewatch that 7th inning and get mad that we didnt score another run with runners on 2nd and 3rd with only 1 out? If only luis would've hit that fly ball a bit further we would've won.

Been at game 5 of the nlcs when pujols hit that hr and had been at this game 4. fkin sucks at times to be at the games

Would another run have made the difference?

Didn't the Royals end up with 9?

Plus, wouldn't have been the first time they failed to score a runner from 3rd and less than 2 outs... nor would it have been the first time that the Royals bullpen gets them out of a jam to try and minimize damage.

you cant assume the 9th ininng would've played out the same if the score was the same. Athletes have adrenaline rushes, morals problems, etc. If we would've scored another run imo we win the game.

Just like you can't assume if they scored another run they win the game... and you'll have to explain what "morals problems" is and how it applies to baseball.

All you can say is whatever happened, happened.... and the fact that the Royals have done this multiple times already in their playoff stints indicates that its more than just a fluke or a random stroke of luck. This is who they are.

You think if it was a one run lead correa doesnt try stealing 2nd in that 9th inning to add more pressure?

Harold Reynolds can be a bit annoying, but..."I just hope that the baseball world has woke up and realized and watched how the KC Royals play baseball."

Not that I was expecting anything different, but as a baseball fan, it saddens me that the top story on ESPN.com, on a night when the Royals could clinch the World Series is...Sunday Night Football.

Great game; after being down 2 in the 9th, Royals come through and now lead in the 12th inning
