No, this is just Morey making sure every GM knows that he's putting Jones on the block. Every leak has a purpose. It's also possible that Morey is just trying to drive up the cost of Love and LMA, which also makes sense.
Not much at all. 2.5 million. More than likely this move would be to get an asset that helps them in a trade or S&T. Much like with the Lowry trade, Morey knew that Lowry the player had less league wide value at the time than the pick they got for him. They made that trade for a later trade. The Rockets if they renounce ALL of their free agents (they wont), they could get around 7 million in cap space. 9.5 isn't going to get a Kevin Love or LMA who are looking to get 18.9 +. The BR report that this has to do with cap space just shows they really don't know what they are talking about in this situation. They Rockets aren't going to create max cap room unless they trade Ariza. If Ariza starts getting shopped, then we can start talking.
We really just need a big that can finish at the rim, and rebound the ball. A huge plus would be if he could hit an 18 foot jump shot. Those guys are huge minuses on defense/rebounding.
If we had gotten rid of Jones, we'd most likely still have Smith and we'd be in a better situation right now. I get why we held on to Jones, but it's looking like a mistake.
Yeah hurry up and get rid of the mistake since Bobby says so Morey. What are you waiting on, I know you're a member of the GARM. Get-er done
Well, it's too late now. With Smith gone, we have to stick with Jones and hope he can do a good enough job till DMo is back.
yes but after training camp? Late. Both teams are aiming for the playoffs. Ersan has looked his usual crap self of the early season gonna lose his starting job to Morris.
We HAVE that already, his name is Montrezl Harrell. The best thing that will happen (until D-Mo gets back) is that Trezl gets significant minutes right out the gate as opposed to going to Rio Grande for D-League. That experience will be invaluable for him, he finishes at the rim with authority, rebounds, and most importantly IMO, doesn't play scared at all.
Yeah, and he'll play in the opener, just needs to polish his rotation game and stop fouling so much and he'll be a beast
Harrell is WOEFULLY LACKING as a rebounder. His problem is that he ball-gawks and is looking for the big homerun putbacks all the time instead of getting position and using leverage to get balls coming off the rim. He's done this so much at the offensive end that he does the same thing subconsciously without thinking about it defensively. Watch him on the defensive end when the shots goes up. He stands wherever he is at and watches the ball trajectory, instead of banging down low and carving out space for a fundamental rebound. He's not even an average rebounder. He is a very poor rebounder.
I don't know why anyone thought he would be a good rebounder at the NBA level. He was a mediocre rebounder in the college ranks. There's some to like about him but the truth is he was a 2nd round pick for a reason. if he is getting major pt by mid season something is terribly wrong with the rockets. I like the kid but at this point for how bad jones may be he still should be a better bench player atleast for this season. We need DMO back in a hurry and it will help alot on both sides of the floor. I'm sick of this team always babying all there injuries some of these guys need to nut up and just play, this whole preseason was a joke we didn't learn one thing about this team. The dwight howard back injury is a joke the dudes been in uniform all preseason. I'm just not buying that everyone is banged up its basketball everyone is sore. I think the rockets are scared from Yao and tmac and now are being overly cautious.
