the more post possessions move from dwight to dmo, the better for the team it is, if we could move all of them, all the better.
cool we shall see I've ride with what I've been saying for years. only way is dmo comes back a willing 3 point shooter FIRST and jump shot shooter for us to go all the way
He said it so himself. That the future of the defence is long players who can switch at 1-4 and can guard at the perimeter. And that to punish the small ball your 4 has to be an excellent rebounder and with good defence then straight up run in transition. This DMO is a great 3point shooter is not so true. First of all he took extremely few 3s and he was the second most wide open player in the league. If you had DMO next to Drummond -who is suposedly is learning to post up and that's the main focus of them for the next year- not only it would take post up touches away from him it would boggle the lanes and it wouldn't use DMO to his strengths. Waste of talents. And he wouldn't be able to switch with KCP and Johnson. That's why out of all the available pfs in free agency next season the one who will make the most sense is TJones. Noone said he would be perfect but neither was Reggie Jackson and SVG took a chance with him and trying to mold him to his liking since like Jones he's very young. Anyway its' an early prediction and too much can change in a season. But Detroit would be my no.1 team I would have in mind as Jones possible destination.
small sample of 3s. Too wide open to be labeled a good shooter. Totally ignored in fact. What's the point having a stretch 4 if he doesn't command any respect at all from the defences to open the defences?
Oh wow, over 130 three point attempts is a "small sample" to you? How many times in the last 2 decades have the Rockets had a PF shoot at least 130 three point attempts?
yes. It's small and over only small amount of games and few tries and totally ignored from the defence. Can't be called a good shooter. Can be called someone who has shown significant promise and improvement with his jumpshot and should be encouraged to take more to open the lanes and command some respect from the defences.
He shot 3 per game in March which he knocked down at 45 % clip. He shot less attempts in general because he was asked to play inside because that's where we needed his scoring. IF DMO gets left open this year it will be a mistake on the other teams part and he will make them pay. Eventually he will command space if he ( he should) keeps up his shooting . Its a process , teams were learning about DMO last season. The fact is that he shot at a 40 % clip post All Star game and even on light attempts that will not be ignored. I think DMo will shoot more 3's this year as a result of hopefully Dwight being healthier and also because I don't think they want to wear him out by having him bang until he is fully healthy.
Yes let's compare the modern NBA with the Nba from two decades ago when the PFs of the league were a different beast with totally different skillsets. Good one Bobby.
He should do all these things that you say. Shoot more, to command attention from the defences and not be the second most ignored big from the defences in all the league behind Boris Diaw when he shoots 3s. And do it for more time than a few months. Until he does, he can't be labeled a good shooter or a stretch 4. That should be the next step in his development.
Why not compare it with 2 years ago? How about 3 years ago? How about 4 years ago? I get why you want to diminish what Motiejunas brings to the table especially after your guy Jones looked so bad earlier tonight but you've gotta know that 130+ attempts is a significant sample.
Ms. Lady has always said Dmo would start over Jones. She also don't get into the drama of Dmo verses Jones either. She keeps it real and speaks her mind all the time Bobby. SO I don't know why you always have to revert to that when someone disagrees with you.
2-3-4 years? That's your sample? That's minuscule. Sure DMO is the best 3point shooter from the pf position the Rockets have had in the last 4 years which means absolutely nothing but ok. Trying to bring reality and stat evidence in the conversation isn't diminishing anyone. If you think that DMO is the second coming of Jesus on earth that's your problem really. The rest of the world knows that DMO is not perfect and has flaws and needs more developing which hopefully will come. Thanx Htownballer. Seems noone can say anything about DMO that's not "WOW HE'S THE BEST" or else he's a hater or smh a Jones fan.
I have no problem with people who disagree with me so long as they do so rationally. When you start calling 130+ 3 point attempts a "small sample" in an effort to diminish a player....well you have to question their motivation. Especially when they are someone who should know better.
If your argument is that he hasn't done it yet, then i guess I can understand but he has a very good chance of doing that if he just repeats his last month performance Here are the PF's last season that shot more than 3 attempts a game at > 37 % Dirk, Patterson, Ibaka, Ilyasova, Bosh, Frye, Villanueva. The fact that DMO shot 2.5 3's a game at a 40 % clip definitely qualifies him as an above average stretch 4. I guess we will see how it plays out , but my guess is that he will be guarded this year , thus creating space.
I'm sorry but Dmo has to shoot more than just a month. And what about the earlier months when he didn't shoot it well? You can't really say he's an above average stretch 4. That make no sense.
You know what they say Bobby. The devil is in the details. Raw stats dont' mean much. Maybe if you started paying more attention to the details and the advanced stats you wouldn't be so angry when something happens that you didn't expect. Here is the attention from the defences for all those NAME/FGA/3FG%/OPEN%/WIDE OPEN%/C+S Rhyno/354/33.9/50.6/6.2/87.3 Frye/345/39.1/47.8/7.2/96.5 Mirtc/308/31.8/44.2/8.4/76.0 Gallo/292/36.0/30.1/4.1/86.3 Ppat/281/37.4/53.4/13.2/98.2 Dirk/273/38.1/38.5/6.2/94.1 Vill/220/37.7/47.3/9.1/95.9 Ily/186/39.8/51.1/16.7/88.2 (screw your pumpfake ffs) Bosh/168/37.5/48.2/10.7/94.0 Ibaka/204/37.7/65.2/15.7/97.5 Millsap/211/35.5/66.4/18.5/95.3 Toliver/288/36.8/47.6/7.6/97.9 DMO/130/37.7/78.5/20/97.7 IF you expect DMO to go and shoot the same percentage of 3s when the defences start paying attention to him than when he's left wide open you are in for a surprise. This has also been said for Draymond Green. So yes. DMO is not a good shooter until he is able to shoot more for more time and maintain this efficiency when he's finally getting defended. Until then he's promising. He should be ABSOLUTELY encouraged to take more 3s because that's the point. To open the defences. If he is able to maintain a respectable efficiency with more 3point attempts while he's guarded it will be what the team wants. To stretch the defences. And this will show in the playoffs most of all.
What a crappy argument malakas. Check out Terrence's advanced stats in the playoffs and go write a 4000 word post explaining that away.
What a crappy argument that DMO is not a good shooter-yet at least? The fact that everything that is posted about DMO has to immediately come back to Jones smh speaks tons about your obsession for him.
