I wonder how many of the open threes the rockets give up are because of scheme vs players screwing up.

It is possible to contest every three and guard the paint. Just watch the spurs.

I don't like the feel of this team, right now.

Last season, even in the preseason, you could tell the guys were on a mission. They wanted to prove all the people who already counted the off wrong. They played with a chip on their shoulder, hustled to make plays on defense, worked the ball around for great shots, etc.

This season, it just looks like we are pretty complacent. Like, we know we have a great team and will most likely be there at the end of the season so we aren't trying as hard. I know its preseason but its pretty concerning.

Our defense was a mess this whole preseason. Teams that don't even want to score a lot, like Memphis, had offensive field day against us. Every game we played, there was a stretch that the other team got absolutely anything they wanted on offense.

Our offense looked otherworldly at times but other times, it was the same old crap we've seen the past 3 years, which is James, create for us! At times, it just looked like James and Ty were taking turns with the ball instead of them working off each other for easier shots. We still take too many dumb three and force too many dumb passes. As much as our offense was unstoppable at times, it was the stagnant mess it is notorious for just the same.

Like, what are they working on in practice?! It's been the same show from game 1 to today's game.

Then add in the injuries, and its been a very frustrating preseason. Definitely not the preseason that leaves me very confident to start the season with.

Obviously, it is just preseason and now the games count. But I just don't a great feeling about this team right now. I think they will do well but my enthusiasm, which was at an all time high coming into this preseason, has been curving downward.

Agreed. They don't have the same hunger right now it seems.

Hopefully it's just because it's preseason and they aren't giving their full effort and they will turn it up when the games matter.

But they've been very flat the whole preseason.

I'm so sick of T jones. Missed layup after missed layup (most of which should be dunked), missed free throws, missed 3pt shots, missed hooks, missed rebounds.

He must go. He looks lost

What happens when every single Rocket gets injured? Do we just forfeit?

[rQUOTEr]Rockets coach Kevin McHale wasn't pleased with the defense after a 111-86 loss to the Spurs to close the preseason. The Rockets scored a season-low in total points as the Spurs shot 51.3 percent from the floor.

"We did not play very good defense and we didn’t play a very good game all the way around," McHale said. "We were scoring the ball a little bit in the first half but our defense was really poor. We're just not getting any coverages called, way too many mixups, leaving shooters wide open, over helping in some areas, not helping in other areas. We got a lot of work to do and a lot of it is our bigs are just not communicating with the guards so we don’t know what's going on we got a lot of work to do."[/rQUOTEr]

It really is pretty ridiculous. Danny Green is like a career 42% 3 point shooter and we kept leaving him wide freaking open.....

I know what's going on. Harden is free lancing and it screws everything up.

Spurs have great spacing, passing, and made their shots.

Rockets' health didn't allow a true matchup tonight.

    Teams will meet again

After tonight's performance we're most definitely not ready for a serious run this year.

LOL ok, everyone needs to chill out, we will be fine.

That's because we've finally arrived. Look back historically at the veteran, contender teams. They understand that you don't bust ass in the preseason to prepare for the regular season. That's a new school Warriors thing, because they are naive and have yet to learn about the sting of injuries.

But the Lebron Cavs/Heat, the Ubuntu Celtics, the Kobe Lakers, and even the Spurs of the past fifteen years know. The NBA reg season is ridiculously long. The preseason is not the preseason. The regular season before Christmas is the real preseason.

I'm not worried about our ability to turn it on when it's time, because we have a ton of leaders on this squad. Jason Terry, Trevor Ariza, and even Harden and Dwight. They've all been there before; they know what it takes.

And they also know that we haven't even begun the preseason yet. October wins are for scrub teams that don't get to taste the taste of victory in May and June.
