It's funny how you pretend to know what Dr. King would have thought had he been alive today. Just because you once copy and pasted a quote of his in your sig does not make you an expert on what his thought process might be today.

Next, do we need to address the male perverts entering men's rooms? I don't think we want peeping toms there either.

This ordinance is not about bathrooms, it's about fairness and individual freedoms.

Texans owner Bob McNair rescinds contribution to anti-HERO group
    http://www.chron.com/sports/texans/...b-McNair-rescinds-contribution-to-6586869.php

Saying he doesn not believe in "personal or professional discrimination of any kind," Texans owner Bob McNair asked the Campaign for Houston to return his $10,000 contribution.

The ordinance also bans discrimination based on sex, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, religion, disability, pregnancy and genetic information, as well as family, marital or military status"

Like Bob McNair, many Houstonians are taking a step back and realizing the opposition's ads on the Equal Rights Ordinance are intended to raise anxiety with outright distortions and quite frankly lies," said Richard Carlbom. "When you take a second look, the Equal Rights Ordinance protects all Houstonians from discrimination and makes Houston a place everyone can be proud to call home.".

I dont understand why this is even an issue. This has an impact on .3% of the people. Of that .3%, what percentage really even cares? Out of all the atrocities we are trying to solve, its this one. No one is telling a transgender they can't use a bathroom period.

Here is the issue no liberal is addressing; Since this will have the largest effect on women by large, what do THEY think? Why does .3% of the population get to dictate the opinion of the 50%?

Serious question for the narrow minded liberals: When the law gets passed, either sex can now go into the other sex bathroom for ANY reason w/out question. (Like anyone will dare to question someone being transgender now) The essentially makes every bathroom a unisex bathroom. At what point does it matter anymore which bathroom has the pants and which one has the dress?

Its simple. Leave it to the establishment to decide how they want to handle it.

Thats long been my issue with over-politicizing some social issues, particularly LGBT ones.

There is NO PROBLEM in getting EVERYONE aware. If 100% people need to know how to treat 0.3% better, then that is okay.

They are people and important. Still their numbers and scale is VERY SMALL, it can be considered the "fringe" of society. We have so many fringe groups dictating the behavior of the WHOLE.

I dont like ANY side over-exaggerating the effects. Dont like social justice warriors claiming unintentional mishandling of one person out of 10,000 means that its damning evidence of your insensitivity to the entire human race. I dont like the opposition citing scaremongering Pandora's Box of horrors to come of "Goodness you allow THAT, then WHATS NEXT?!"

Its just seems effective to convey that its ONLY a SMALL percent that itll affect, and everyone is MORE than capable of accommodating that change. The good thing of the hyperbole is it gets people to have discussion at least. I wouldnt even have thought of this if it wasnt blown so out of proportion

I think you raise a good point about scale, but misapply it. The transgender bathroom issue is very small and immaterial compared to the larger issue of discrimination by race, gender, origin, and religion in employment, housing and public accommodation. It's ridiculous that some citizens would take a concern about a tiny issue like transgenders' bathroom choice and let it dictate how they'd vote on a discrimination bill that has implications for everybody. Sorry black people - I couldn't support equal treatment for you because some perv might go into the ladies room.

The entire purpose for the ordinance is to add in the tranny part. Everything else there is already legal protection for.

This is great and all, but it doesn't solve the fact that not all women (or men) are comfortable with people whom they perceive as the opposite sex being in the same bathroom as them.

I wish there is a magical way to solve this but you can't just suddenly warp people's minds forward fifty years.

Even in a LGBT thread, you cant stop obsessing over racism huh

"Not comfortable" is such a bogus standard. Some people are "not comfortable" with blacks, whites, Muslims, gays, weird-looking people, liberals, conservatives, gun owners in a restroom. Wanna ban them from using the same restrooms? Personally I am not comfortable with people who take disgusting-smelling dumps in a restroom. Ban them? Also idiots who stand two feet away from the urinal. Ban them?

What's even worse is you imply that after fifty years "forward," we won't have this problem. It's like "Come on, guys. We have to make decisions based on the most backward-thinking people on our society."

That's a great response, man! I should cut and paste it into every thread, because it is totally generic and does not touch on any particular thread topic.

I'm uncomfortable with people who stink up the restroom with foul dumps. Stop my discomfort! Ban foul dumpers.

And my granddad would be real uncomfortable if he saw James Harden standing beside him at a urinal. Appease Granddad!

This is not a bathroom issue, the bathroom issue is a divisive hypothetical raised by people that have a problem extending equal protection to people who are different because of their socialized preferences. It's exactly like saying gay marriage will threaten traditional marriage when really they just don't like the idea of butt sex.

Gays and transgenders are people too my friend.

All you can do is cry racism, yet you cannot link to a single racist post I've ever made.

Invoking a legend like Dr King in this disgusting debate is insulting to the entire civil rights movement. Rosa Parks, Dr King, the underground railroad, etc - you've just dropped your pants and shat on all of them.

So what? He's right. There are people that are not comfortable with Mexicans in our country. Should we bend over backwards to appease them? F those people.

There are many people that are not comfortable with Gay people. Many of them would banish a family member that they hate it so much. Who cares? As has been evidenced, men aren't comfortable with Transsexuals in the men's room either.

Are you sure? I heard that now anything is on the table. A man can marry a duck! The country is now in chaos!

All the states that actually have equal rights for the bathroom are probably all dealing with a sudden spike of bathroom rape.

    Right?

If there's one thing known to stop a rapist, it's a "Ladies Only" sign on the door.
