I hope the team trades Gattis. If you have a guy that can't play the field at all, he really needs to be a superstar with the bat.

What? Get rid of the guy that was third in the league in tripes (and tied for last in stolen bases)?

I wouldn't mind Nelson Cruz, although he is already 35 years old. I am concerned that the cost in trade would be prohibitive though.

Alex Gordon is an elite defensive outfielder and will hit you 20 homers. He also hits almost equally well against lefties and righties. He also would probably hit a few more homers in MMP than in KC.

I don't really have a strong opinion on Gordon other than the fact he is very solid and sound.

As far as Gattis is concerned, the production the Astros got out of him and Carter is not acceptable. I know that in the past the front office liked the idea of a revolving DH, letting players get a rest. Regardless, I don't think Gattis is going anywhere because he is under team control long term.

Gattis would look good in a Brewers uniform. Kind of like Gorman Thomas or Rob Deer. Singleton, Duffy and a few others could help them too. Find a way to get Lucroy off their hands.

    You want Lucroy?

    Expect to include Appel.

He's just 3.5 years older than Gordon.

But digging into Cruz a little deeper, this year was a bit of an outlier; his BA and OB% jumped considerably. Additionally, his power numbers have jumped the past two years, despite moving *out* of Arlington Stadium. Some of that may be better health but...... well, it's not normal.

So, yeah - I'm officially skeptical. He's potentially a more robust testing protocol away from being not worth the resources.

Am I missing something? Lucroy had a great 2014 campaign, but what looks like an extremely mediocure 2015 campaign. Why would the price tag be that high? Exceptional D/pitch framing?

Carter has shown he can play 1B, albeit with inconsistent results.

Tucker plays a bad LF. Evan Gattis plays LF about as well as a chair.

Gattis has played 59 games in LF, and has -14 defensive runs saved. His annual average for that would be -40/year.

Tucker has played 90 games in the OF, and has -5 defensive runs saved, for an annual average of -9.

Under contract the next two seasons for a total cost of only $9,000,000.

He was very good in 2012, 2013 and 2014.

He hits for a good average, solid extra base pop, doesn't strike out much.

He is average at throwing runners out but is considered good behind the plate.

He was hurt most of 2015 with a foot injury and then a concussion. He hit very well to end the season though.

The fact he is a catcher (a real catcher), on a cheap contract, still in his prime and there is a strong interest in catchers, leads to believe he would cost more in trade than most people think.

43 base runners ran on him........ 42 were successful.

    For comparison.

The Cubs traded for Miguel Montero coming off a season with a sub .700 OPS.

He was 31 years old, had 3 years, $40,000,000 left on his contract and was only league average throwing runners out.

Only one of the prospects the Cubs dealt was valuable, but Lucroy offensively is better across the board offensively, defensively they are similar...... but Montero will cost $20,000,000 MORE the next two seasons.

Morgan Ensberg is very well liked in the Astros system and has worked with a lot of the younger guys in the system, close with a lot of them.
