All threads about TJones should end with this.

I'm glad we're not talking about TJones anymore.

    Thanks for this thread.

I acknowledge that nobody probably cares and have moved on from Josh Smith, but just to prove my case against YOLO:

    3 Point Shooting

Josh shot 33% (on 3.5 attempts per game) with the Rockets in the regular season and 37% in the playoffs. That's good for PF's if you look around. Draymond Green gets all this hype as a stretch four - he shot 32% from three.

    Defense

In the regular season with the Rockets, Josh Smith was 7th in the league among PF's who played 40 games and averaged 5 shots contested in how worse opponents he guarded shot at -4.2%. Yes, this may not be a perfect stat, because it looks more at individual defense. But individual defense is where we've been exploited by PF's with TJones in there.

Plus, Josh always kicks a$$ with blocks and steals.

    Rebounding

He is not a Reggie Evans or Kevin Love, but he is good on the boards. Josh averaged more than 5 defensive rebounds a game for 8 straight years until last year He would have had it last year if he had the minutes. He averaged 5.5 defensive rebounds per 34 minutes with us in the regular season.

The major complaints on him were turnovers and shot selection. I believe the turnovers would have improved with the addition of Lawson. Shot selection - blame the coaches. They told him to shoot.

    Suck it, YOLO.

There shouldn't even be a discussion on who is the better player between Smoove and Terrence. It isn't even close. Not worth discussing.

What a bunch of garbage that's proves nothing. That's hilarious if you think any of that proves JS now does any of the 3 things mentioned effectively. Nice try though

You probably think it's the guy who is forced to play on a minimum contract who isn't even 30 yet cause nobody else wants him. Pretty pathetic

Now we can't talk about Smoove either?

    What can we talk about?

    Yes.

Rockets players or possible future Rockets players who are better than Terrence.

Hopefully we trade Bev and Craft becomes a Rocket before somebody else picks him up. He's gonna be a great defensive point guard in the NBA.

God, you suck. Provide some support for your arguments. Overused word, but you are clearly a "troll". I encourage others to not waste anymore time on you.

I rather not have the same conversations over and over like some do. There's plenty of threads regarding that topic where my points are clearly stated.

perhaps if the rockets make the finals this year terrence jones can make the winning play. and the opinions in this thread will go down in the lexicon of this message board.

Someone said that Terrence Jones plays soft against better competition, but he averaged 11.7 ppg and 6.5 rebounds against playoff teams last year during the regular season. That's almost exactly the same as against non-playoff teams. The stats don't back up that statement.

I'm fine trading him if it makes us better, but it's nonsense to say he disappears against the better teams.

You forgot free throw shooting. I personally think it's the only reason he's not here. We would have moved TJ if JSmoove could hit 55% of his freebies, but he's missed FTs all his life. A career .474 FT shooter is tough to hide in your lineup.

(Notice I left in you last line, oakdogg, a truer 99er has never lived ;) )

For someone who wants to get rid of any TJones talk you cannot get enough of that talk!

Just keep him around as an inexpensive backup, and let him walk next summer. No worries!

Good point. I will rep you. I overlooked turnovers in my first analysis way back when, and now I overlooked free throws. So weird, considering he was a decent free throw shooter for several years. Nevertheless, the argument I was involved in was regarding those 3 criteria, so I still say I won that. If I was Morey, I still would "gamble" he can get back to decent free throw shooting when he only costs so little.

I initially took this as a big compliment. After thinking about it, it probably wasn't meant as one, but I will take it as one anyway. I don't think I deserve any of that negativity often thrown towards 99ers, because I have never put down someone because of their join date. I do like 99ers, because it's cool to be able to think back 16 years ago (a big chunk of one's life!) and remember heypartner's interesting arguments for us getting Danny Fortson at PF, etc.

The caveat I think is against better competition in meaningful games, i.e. playoffs. Things may change this season, but so far he hasn't looked like the same player in the postseason.
