    Roll on clown car!

Benghazi panel outs CIA source, then tries to cover its tracks

The Republican-led House Select Committee on Benghazi hastily deleted the name of a high-level Libyan defector from one of its public releases on Monday, shortly after Yahoo News reported the panel had inadvertently revealed the defector’s name in an effort to embarrass Hillary Clinton.

Lemme get this straight: they spent all this time yapping about how Mrs. Clinton's private server could have exposed "classified" material, finally found a "classified" email after 2 years, were then told by the CIA that it was not "classified", but decided to release the email anyway because it was "sensitive" and the American public needed to decide for itself if this is bad...And then they forget to blackout the name of the guy they said Mrs. Clinton's private server was putting in jeopardy?

Wow. This should have major repercussions. Basically shows that Benghazi and Email Server was all a witchhunt. We all knew it, but to have it this blatant - it's a shame. American gov't has failed the people once again. All these clowns should resign.

It gets better - the GOP crazies want to impeach Clinton even though she isn't even the nominee yet:

    Wheels coming off...

Benghazi Chair Returns Donations Tied To PAC That Ran Nasty Anti-Clinton Ad

Benghazi committee Chair Trey Gowdy (R-SC) is now returning $6,000 in political donations that are indirectly tied to a PAC that ran a nasty anti-Hillary Clinton ad showing the grave of the U.S. ambassador killed in the 2012 attacks, the Washington Post reported Monday.

Gowdy is coughing up the money after the paper inquired about ties between Gowdy and Dan Backer, who used to serve as treasurer for Gowdy's now-defunct leadership PAC. Backer is now the treasurer of the The Stop Hillary PAC, which aired the ad that flashed images of all four Americans killed in the Benghazi attacks in addition to Ambassador Chris Stevens' grave, during the first Democratic presidential primary debate last week.

An amazing read if you have some time.

Benghazi Biopsy: A Comprehensive Guide to One of America’s Worst Political Outrages

The deaths of four Americans at the hands of militants aligned with Al-Qaeda in the 2012 attack on the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya, were a tragic loss for the U.S. But unlike other embassy attacks, this one has become the subject of one of America's longest congressional investigations and the root of many right-wing conspiracy theories.

    A taste:

"The historical significance of this moment can hardly be overstated, and it seems many Republicans, Democrats and members of the media don’t fully understand the magnitude of what is taking place. The awesome power of government—one that allows officials to pore through almost anything they demand and compel anyone to talk or suffer the shame of taking the Fifth Amendment—has been unleashed for purely political purposes. It is impossible to review what the Benghazi committee has done as anything other than taxpayer-funded political research of the opposing party’s leading candidate for president. Comparisons from America’s past are rare. Richard Nixon’s attempts to use the IRS to investigate his perceived enemies come to mind. So does Senator Joseph McCarthy’s red-baiting during the 1950s, with reckless accusations of treason leveled at members of the State Department, military generals and even the secretary of the Army. But the modern McCarthys of the Benghazi committee cannot perform this political theater on their own—they depend on reporters to aid in the attempts to use government for the purpose of destroying others with bogus “scoops” ladled out by members of Congress and their staffs. These journalists will almost certainly join the legions of shamed reporters of the McCarthy era as it becomes increasingly clear they are enablers of an obscene attempt to undermine the electoral process."

It will be interesting in the future when the real story of Benghazi is revealed.
There is some CIA truths we won't know for years. Why was an ambassador engaged in that level of risky behavior?

So is anyone watching today? What's your impressions so far?

    Josh Marshall weighs in....

I must say, I think this whole engagement helps Hillary. Whatever else you can say about Hillary Clinton, she knows her stuff. She's a pro. It's very hard to imagine any of the Republicans presidential candidates being able to roll with this kind of questioning, or have even remotely this range of knowledge. For her interlocutors here, who mainly come off as jokes, and for the whole GOP caucus, you can see why they just couldn't and can't forgive Kevin McCarthy for his goof. He really screwed the pooch.

The GOP got the exact opposite of what they were intending. What I was able to see of the hearing made Hillary seem informed and poised. This investigation, especially after it was admitted to being an overt political tactic designed to hurt Hillary, strengthened her as a candidate instead.

    What a spectacular backfire...haha.

Republican politicians are really trying hard to bring Clinton down. I admire their persistence but they are as bad as Al Queda.

After all the gift to Clinton the past 2-3 weeks by GOPers, I'm not sure why they just don't cancel it. Now everyone is going to talk about this and bring up the witch hunt. GOP looks crazier everyday.

I think how people view this hearing depends on if you are a Republican, or Democrat.

I don't think she looks very forthcoming. And in my opinion it looks like Clinton/Obama were not being honest about what they knew about the attack in the hours and days afterward.

Mistakes were clearly made in not pulling our people out as things were deteriorating in Benhazi. Other countries pulled their people out, we did not.

    Hindsight is 20/20. But still.

I am not big a fan of Hillary Clinton. I am just calling it like I see it.

The fact that the opening statement from the GOP pretty much ignored the embassy attack and instead blamed Hillary for the ouster of Qaddafi and what has happened since in Libya spoke volumes.

Of course, much of this is about politics. Just listen to the way the Democrats question Hillary. Politics as usual. But I think there are some legitimate questions that need to be answered also.

I'm also not a Hillary fan. But, how could I ever vote for Donald Trump?
