Very true, you can't draw conclusions based on a combined 3 years of play in the regular season, post season, and pre-season.....you can only draw conclusions based on 4 regular season games against 4 of the worst teams in the NBA.
He was good up until the rib injury. After he came back from that he was playing scared, not hustling and acting like he was scared to re injure his ribs.
I think the more accurate way of saying it would be to say that he was inconsistent until the rib injury. He had his share of really good games and his fairly poor games. That's pretty much his story his whole career. The way I see it, he's still that guy.....but I have noticed that this pre-season he's been able to create his own shot when his defender falls for the pump fake and he can get to the rim, that's a very positive development IMO.
Francisco Elson won a title as the starting center for the Spurs. Terrence Jones, for all his warts, is a better starting PF (if D-Mo is injured) than Elson was as a center. The scrutiny from the anti-fans on here is ridiculous. If every position isn't a superstar than he's trash. Its beyond spoiled... its bratty and immature. I'm sure you've seen the movie Major League. Every time i read posts on here b****ing about Jones or whomever, I can help but think of Randy Quaid's character sitting out in the outfield saying "They'll blow it in the 8th...".
Yeah he's always tried to do that, but he hasn't been very good at it. He looks a lot better at it this pre-season thus far. Now the question is, how long are defenders going to keep falling for the pump fake when you are a mediocre at best shooter....but right now I'll just take the positive development.
I really think the problem most people here have with TJones is that they've set their expectations for him as a starter on a championship team. More recently I've started to view him as a Brewer type player. If Brewer was our starter at SF, most here would think he was terrible. As a backup, Brewer is well suited to his role and every once in a while he gives us a big game. That's who TJones is right now. Every so often he has a big game where he's hitting 3s, finishing around the basket, and rebounding the ball. That seems fine for a backup PF, though I'd like to have one more just in case.
LOL. You don't need top 10 players at every starting position to win a Championship. Record breaking GSW are an exception to the rule. Champions of the recent past had guys like Mario Chalmers, Haslem, Splitter, Derek Fisher etc starting who were not as good in their positions as TJones is at his and they still won championships. You can definitely win a championship with TJ as the 5th starter. We have two of the best at their positions and the other two are top 10 at their positions. It starts and ends with them.
Y'all can view him as a backup all you want. The head coach views him as his starting PF. You armchair coaches are freaking hilarious. Probably never coached a day in your life but always on here acting as if you know exactly what it takes to win a championship in the NBA. Too hilarious hahaha
that's another bullcrap post. Your antiJones agenda makes you either lose your IQ or just twisting things? How can you say something like that with a straight face in a basketball forum? Allow me to introduce you to the concept of player development. Making conclusions for the whole of a guys future carreer based on his first three years in the league..how ridiculous.
Despite the flashes... I remain unimpressed with TJones... we arent gonna pay him next year, so may as well flip him already...
So no one including you can accurately and honestly evaluate an NBA player using preseason games right?
I don't understand the asinine view that T-Jones HAS to be consistent EVERY game or he's a bust/garbage. We don't need for him to put up superstar numbers, we just need him to be a solid piece to our team, which he has done (mostly) despite what these T-Jones haters are spewing. His advanced stats from when he was a starter 2 yrs ago are better than DMO's last yr. Even last season before he had the lung injury he was solid as pointed out by Bmd. A few bad games against superstar PF's doesn't mean the kid has been hot garbage. Like doboro said some of you are just spoiled and need to stop pushing your ridiculous agendas.
Just curious - if NBA starters play 50% of full speed during postseason, does that mean that the Rockets starters are also going 50% speed?
Don't even listen to him. They are playing harder than 50%. They aren't going all out... that's true... but they are going harder than half speed.
I'm sorry but this is just inaccurate. At the beginning of last season it was true. He would have one great game followed by a lousy one. He was what we needed him to be 50% of the time and while he showed what he could be in half of those games it was troubling that he still began the season inconsistently as consistency has been his greatest problem. But when he came back from the nerve injury he was not inconsistent. He played steadily great ball, moved back into the starting lineup, and was averaging a double double. I think he had about 10 games like that, strong games, consistently strong. And then he had his second freak injury with the ribs and lung and when he came back (necessarily, whether ready or not, because D-Mo was out) he didn't look the same. I agree he seemed to be playing scared, trying not to get injured again. The bottom line is that, owing to injuries last year, we still don't know what TJ can do. He hasn't gotten to play enough with our real squad to know how he will play in the real rotation. He has had good games and bad ones. But that doesn't trouble me in the preseason, with so many bodies out. I continue to see good progress from Jones and I think it's premature to say we know what kind of player he's going to be when he grows up. (Everyone forgets: He is 23.) I'm looking forward to a breakout year from Terence and/or Donatas. They have been remarkably similar in their progress. Both have been inconsistent for us when healthy. D-Mo's only real advantage over TJ was that he had more healthy games last year and was able to bust out as a result of those minutes. They each have a lot of room to grow. I don't much care which turns out to be the better player; I only care that we resign whichever does. This year should tell us everything about these two guys.
