I'd say no. Beverley's ideal role is the 20 mpg bench-pest that he's slated to play this year. Sure, he's not a natural PG, but we've won a great % of our games with him as our starting PG and playing more minutes (and taking more shots) than he should've been. Now we have a legitimate playmaker at the PG spot in front of him, and he's the perfect counterpoint to him. People talk about not having a playmaker/go-to guy in the second unit as if it's a major problem. Guys, you do realize that a coach can stagger minutes to where Lawson accompanies Brew, Capela and Jones a majority of the time (i.e. sub Lawson out early with Bev, bring him back a little after the bench unit comes in). Or hell, do that with D-Mo when he's healthy, and run the offense through him in the post for a few minutes while Harden sits. I'm not worried about our offense or depth at all. The only things that worry me just a bit are: - PF defense: D-Mo has become solid but he's still not physical or a rim-protector; Jones is poor one-on-one, even if he blocks a few shots from the weak-side; Harrell is small and a rook). - Lack of knock-down shooters: Harden is the best shooter on our team. Terry/Thornton are up there as well, but they're likely not going to play much. Ariza/Bev are alright but streaky, Lawson can knock it down but he's never been a high-volume 3pt shooter (same with D-Mo), Brew/KJ/Jones are below-avg. For a team that sets records for 3PA, the inevitable off-games are going to be tough to overcome. The only type of trade I'd look into would be one for a veteran 2-way PF, like a Millsap, though I think they'd only trade him for a legit wing or true C (to allow Horford to finally slide over to the PF spot). Or, maybe a guy like Taj Gibson, as the Bulls have a pretty crowded frontcourt.
Beverley is perfect for this team with the role he will be assigned in the regular season. No need to trade him.
Only two teams would be interested in beverly right now and cant think them trading for him. I dont think he will have a good season this year because of his new role which doesnt fit his talents.
I'm not high on Dekker either .... just doesn't appear to have enough athleticism to defend anyone in the NBA and isn't great at any one particular facet of the game either. I'd trade Harrell too .... He's a season (or more) away from being a contributor , lots of things he has to improve on. Has potential but this team is trying to win now. But I'm not trading PatBev or T.Jones unless I get a comparable player at their respective positions in return. You trade PatBev and don't get a point in return , all you have is Lawson and Terry .... and I saw enough of him trying to defend last year. I'm not trading T.Jones unless I get back a quality PF .... Not when all we have is DMo and a rookie who I don't believe contributes much this year. Howard , Harden , Ariza , DMo , Lawson , PatBev , T.Jones , Brewer & Capela are almost untouchable in trade scenarios this season and I'm definitely not moving two of them and leaving a gaping hole in the process of questionably upgrading one or the other. Dekker , Harrell , KJ , Thornton & Terry .... yep , they'd be on the trade block.
If the right deal came along I would trade ANYONE not named Harden! Having said that, I would CONSIDER trading the "Beard" for the "Unibrow"! I said CONSIDER!!! ....... ....... .......
Yeah, I think Bev is in the right situation with the Rox now, but if there was a real starter quality PG available, I'd be interested for exactly the reason you mention. Harden and Lawson will stagger PG/playmaking duties, but it would be nice to have a second unit PG that can handle those duties. It certainly isn't Bev.
You'd have to keep Beverley because Lawson is not a lock to return next year. Beverley would not do too well if he really had to run a team at PG. He's a good fit for the Rockets and vice versa.
No. Beverley loves playing for this team and he fits s need the Rockets have for a defensive pest at the guard position
No I'd keep Beverly now...Lawson and Beverly tandem will be one of the best in the league in my opinion....will def come handy come playoff time.
The overreaction this board is currently is currently experiencing from mere preseason games is embarrassing.
For match up purposes Bev is the defender, Ty is the offensive pressure. 3 and D guards are great to have on good contacts too
let me say this again, Bev's D is Overrated. he's a hustle player thats it. **** Tyler Johnson played better than him tonights game.
Stop overreacting, some of you have gotten so trade happy. This is team is good the way it is. Bev isn't a creator we've know this for years he's a 3 and D guard. Thats why he's gonna play alongside Ty a lot. Can we at least get out of the preseason before the noobs and trolls begin knee jerking? Just pitiful.
There couldn't a more perfect role for him. Coming off the bench playing alongside a playmaking point guard.
