Nobody wants to take the time to shoot something down. Just don't fly them around where first responders are working.
I wasnt responding to your post. I dont condone flying drones in the atmosphere of airplanes and definitely not the flying around danger zones, such as forest fires. I was just posting an article that was related to the OP, showing that there are non-violent 'weapons' that can bring down drones without harming anything around them. Plus, nobody wants to take time to shoot them down, but what other choices are there if there are drones in your vicinity?
Just got back from a class for Law Enforcement usage, received a Phantom on a grant that I applied for. I absolutely love it. I am on a Fugative Task Force in the area and have used the drone to track wanted individuals on the ground during a chase. Mine has the ability to lock onto a heat signature and basically go into autopilot while officers on the ground follow the track. Very useful tool. I realize the majority of y'all on here hate my profession but I figured I would give my two cents lol...and OP you will absolutely love it!
The phantom3 is probably the best for beginners. It's all based on gps so it's stable in the air. It hovers when you get off the controls and it manages battery, so that when you are at a low battery it automatically comes back to you. The standard is $699, not too expensive, but doesn't break the bank either.
We don't hate your profession. It's just the typical level of professionalism we find, given your responsibilities & authority. For example I'm not too surprised the people we pay to find fugitives, can't even spell the word "fugitive" (I mean, you're on the Fugitive Task Force man). Nothing personal, because you didn't set the hiring standards or who we can afford to pay, and I don't want to do the job, so thank you for your service, stay safe out there, and have fun with your drone.

Eerily similar to Obama's plan to put a wrench into my stockpiling of AR-15's in preparation for judgement day.

Yikes. Since so many people are paranoid about drones, this invention could be terrible for drone owners if this radio wave gun gets released to general public. I can see citizen 'vigilantes' go around shooting down drones while patting themselves on the back even if the drone was flown in a perfectly legal and safe manner. Without any ways to track the 'shooter', drone owners can be completely out of luck in tracking down the perpetrator. There are some irresponsible and shady drone pilots out there (ie: flying over a forest fire, are you kidding me?), and those people should definitely be reprimanded. I just hope this radio wave gun won't hurt responsible drone pilots.
The drones don't just drop out of the sky that would be dangerous. They usually have a fail safe mode. Most drones also employ frequency hoping etc. to avoid jamming.
The chances of a drone nerd coming face-to-face with a radio wave gun nerd are definitely slim enough for me to not give a ****.
