The problem is they're too young in highschool, it's not surprising an 18 year old kid like junk food and hates exercise, just look at Marc Gasol dude was a lard bucket pre-NBA. Still, I always thought getting Hinkie pretty much squandered all the spoils they got from the Hornets and unnecessarily set their team back when they drafted Embiid and let go of KJ Mcdaniels and MCW for scraps. Not surprised at all it came back to bite him in the butt.
Taking 7 seasons to field a good basketball team doesn't impress me in terms of Hinkie's "genius". That should be expected from any GM.
A great NBA team is worth the wait. It's been 7 years since our 08 team fell apart. Talk to the Bobcats, Kings and Timberwolves of the world. Hinkie knows what he's doing...
I don't disagree about the "worth the wait" part. If he eventually does build a contender, then sure, definitely worth the wait, as that doesn't come around too often for a place like Philadelphia. My problem is more with the premature coronation of Hinkie, who has successfully brainwashed people into thinking no matter what he does, it's the right decision. If the decision makes his team better, it's because he's a good GM, and if the decision makes the team worse, it's because of #TheProcess. It's quite remarkable, really. And the thing is...even if it fails, he has people believing that it's the smartest way to build a team, so when does it end? What if Philly continues to suck and picks busts? At what point does Hinkie finally be held accountable?
Looking at the 2014 Draft, only Wiggins and J Parker are any good, which were drafted ahead of Embiid. Players drafted after Embiid. Aaron Gordon Dante Exum Marcus Smart Julius Randle Nik Stauskas (currently 76er) Noah Vonleh Elfrid Payton Not sure any of these guys are any good. Maybe Smart, Gordon, Payton?
Such a shame...this kid had the talent to become the NBA's first openly gay superstar. I mean, Shirley Temples?
I saw Nerlens and him walking around Santa Monica last spring. They were both wearing 76ers sweat suits and Embiid was eating cheetos and drinking a coke. Also not wearing his boot
They are too young yes, and need good mentors at work and at home to keep them driven. Just have to wait and see. I still agree with Hinkie's plan though. He made the best decision at each point even if it's landed an unmotivated Embiid. Tanking is certainly not just a 3-year process but I think with a smart guy like him leading it, it'll pay off in the long run. If they can have a conference finals worthy squad for 3-5 years after 7-8 years of tanking, I'd consider that effort a success.

And then invest in you and give you multiple chances. Embiid is almost 22 and hasn't played a game yet and won't until next year at least.

Embiid might not pay off, but Okafor is looking good. Noel seems to be fair recompense for Jrue Holiday. And, if I understand correctly, they'll have the Lakers' top-3 protected pick this coming draft, which is probably worth more than MCW was, and a better draft position than they got MCW at (#11). I'm rooting for Hinkie to succeed (eventually).

And they got Dario Saric tearing it up in the Euroleague. Jury is still out on Embiid even playing a meaningful NBA game of basketball, but they seem like they may have a really good front court in 2-3 years regardless of Embiid. I don't think it's as bad as it looks in Philly, but they certainly need to pick up a playmaker.

That would make him 7'2, wow. Bit concerning because of his foot though, his body apparently hasn't matured yet. If he gets it together he'd be a monster, 7'2 guy with world-class defensive instincts, athleticism, one of the best post-games in the league and a good jumper.
