    soccer isn't necessary about athleticism.

the best player in the world is a 5-7 midget who wouldn't stand out at an nfl combine.

unathletic ass diego costa is a world class striker. that should tell you what you need to know about that.

i'm talking specifically talking about athletes, not regular people. black athletes have the physical measurable to play nba basketball more than asian athletes. it's not even lebrons or durants.

how many 6-6 200-220lb low body fat asians you know with the speed, quickness, and agility to play basketball? it's simply a deeper talent pool of athletes to choose from.

intelligence for the most part comes down to how you were raised. if you had a great family base that made school a priority and went to good schools with good teachers then the probability of your intelligence will be higher than someone that does not have those same opportunities.

no amount of schooling is going to make you 6-11 270lbs with hops like deandre jordan.

And Steve Nash and Dirk are both former MVPs...your point?

It's common knowledge to many people that God created the earth and universe. Doesn't make it right. So yeah, your anecdotes mean nothing.

For the people that continue to go back to "Slavery" excuse, it still doesn't explain European players.

IF you are willing to believe that selection slave breeding is the reason (Despite history telling us that this wasn't a widespread thing...and didn't occur for long) than you have to believe that Caucasians in America genetically are still similar to those in Europe. AS such the genes from a White American is not different at all from White Europeans. It's not like there weren't a bunch of Europeans immigrating to this country...

Again, as such. (If you believe in the slavery theory) then that means you must ask yourself why as it was mentioned earlier are there so many good Lithuanians and Spanish players.

I don't understand the logic here that African-Americans are benefitting from a short period of limited selection breeding happening generations ago but apparently the open immigration between USA-Europe just doesn't count.

If you believe in the antiquated theory of races being simple (Asians, Africans, European...) then you have to ask yourself why is it still why is it that white european players are better than white american players.

I don't believe in old race theory though, but just helping some people ask the right questions.

    Messi is incredibly quick though.

One thing to remember that people seem to be forgetting is that skill in these sports transcend athletic ability.

As fast as Usain Bolt is he would not make a great soccer player. How fast can he dribble the ball without losing control? How fast can he dribble a basketball under control?

How fast is Tony Parker really? Remove the ball from his hand and just test his footspeed. How high can he jump? How strong is he? Is he really this super athlete? Ask this question about Chris Paul. Are these guys really super athletes? To me they seemed like extremely skilled players that just benefit from being quick.

Look at Steve Nash in his prime. He was incredibly quick up and down the floor. The protoype fast break PG, won 2 MVPs because of his skill. People would say "He's not very fast." they only say that because of this pre-conceived notion of him being white and slow. You know what, have him in 100 yard sprint and I'm sure he's not very fast...but he's fast with the ball because he practiced running with the ball.

How fast is James Harden? The knock on him is that he's not very athletic. Yet again and again he gets past his man and gets quickly up and down the floor. It's because of his skills.

If you look at the Chinese basketball team, they do not really lack for size. They lack for skill though.

Any country can field a team with big men. How good are they though? Do they have a touch as soft as Pau? The instincts of Anthony Davis? The low post moves of Motiejunas?

Yi Jianlian was picked high in the draft BECAUSE of his athleticism...and look where it got him. He's a 7 footer with the agility of a SF and was a pretty huge bust.

that's why i said in this thread before that dedication to the sport also plays a factor into why europeans are better than white american players.

athleticism is a requirement but not the end all be all.

look at terrence williams. physically he had it all yet did not turn into a star while guys like harden put that work in to work on the skill aspect of his game made it father as a player.

you're probably not gonna be a great nba player if you max out at 5-7. you probably won't even get drafted, but those people that do have the athletic requirements to play nba basketball then at that point skill is what takes you to the next level.

it also comes down to the way they develop players in europe.

guys like goran dragic are playing pro ball at 17, while american players are still playing high school ball and college ball.

that's why america is so far behind when it comes to soccer. other countries are putting kids in soccer academies with quality coaching.

hisgh school/college sports are a joke.

My theory was that White Americans are not any different genetically than White Europeans.

But the reason White Europeans seem to have better basketball players than White Americans is that they have more access to opportunity and coaching in their countries.

In America, the White player is having to compete against the athletically superior Black athletes. This causes a lot of White athletes to be lost in the shuffle in favor of the superior Black athlete.

Even in the NBA, look at how many "raw athletes" are given a chance just because they are so athletic even though they aren't great basketball players. Coaches drool over their "potential".

So a lot of White American athletes get overshadowed by the Black American athletes unless they are really really good at one aspect of basketball (like shooting 3's).

Athletes from Spain are all going to have to compete with guys who can get their head over the rim on a dunk like Russell Westbrook. So they all get the coaching and opportunities to become good basketball players.

If Ricky Rubio grew up in New York City instead of Spain, he might never have gotten to the NBA because he'd be overshadowed by a lot of freakish athletes.

And anecdotes do mean something. You can't act like personal experiences never happened just because it isn't documented in an encyclopedia.

Ask any athlete if White and Black people in general are comparable athletically, and the vast majority will tell you Black athletes are better in general.

Just look at college football. You can look at the Whitest football schools you can think of... and they'll black players at the skill positions. Black running backs, Black wide receivers, etc.

It's because they are better athletes.

I know it's not "politically correct" to say that one race of people is on average more _________ than another race. But reality isn't always politically correct or how you want it to be. Reality is just how it is.

black people only make up 13% of the united states. even in places where there is a large black population, it's set up to where there is segregation between black people and white people. there are even some parts of the united states where there are little to no black people, so i don't agree 100% with the theory that white coaches are holding back white athletes in favor of black athletes.

if your good, then you're good.

Kevin Love went to Lake Oswego High School in Lake Oswego, Oregon where he played with little to no black people.

Messi is a freak athlete too. Athleticism is not only to be tall or jump high.
He has a freaky compared to the average person, balance and speed and eye feet coordination.
And agree on everything you say.
The best example really is Lithuania because it's so tiny and produces great bball players all the time.
China that has the biggest pool availabe of all other countries can't find a good pointguard.
India also doesn't even know what bball is, and in all the olympics they do very bad. Are they so unathletic? Or is it maybe because they are poor and the kids that live in the slums don't even get the chance to learn the sport and become professionals?
Well but some people with zero or very low skill levels DID get drafted and made it to the best league in the world even if they busted and left after a couple of years.
What white Europeans? The northern Europeans have a different genetic makeup than the Irish or the Meditteranean or the Turkic (hungarian, finnish, turks).
But I agree with what you say in a way, though it doesn't have to do with race. It has to do with the obssesion over physical attributes and putting the skill aspect and their development as an afterthought.
If a kid no matter the race is more athletic than another kid, he will be encouraged to focus more on the sport and get the chance to hone his skills better. The less athletic kid will be cut from the team and told to leave and play another sport or try another carreer path.
And in Europe the best athletes always end up playing football. Because basketball is not so popular. And the chance that you make it and earn a good living is much lower than if you play football since football has a ton of leagues and teams. European teams' salaries are not big.
It is only in Lithuania from all of Europe that all the best athletes have basketball as their first choice.

Yeah, I don't buy that theory either because of what Mr.Spacecity just said about Kevin Love.

I don't think coaches are against white players. Coaches want to win. If a guy displays skills and dedication a coach doesn't care if he's purple.

Your personal experiences has nothing to do with actual scientific study though. You are trying to pass them off as fact.

Just because a bunch of people agree with something doesn't make it true. There are a bunch of examples of a bunch of people believing whole heartedly with the wrong thing.

Also, your "Ask any athlete..." theory is wrong. Most black athletes would tell you otherwise. The link that was shared about Kenyans had a quote about a Kenyan runner and he was offended by the question.

If you ask Lebron James or Andre Johnson do you think that's what they think? Or will they say "My Hard work is why I'm here." Watt says that over and over again. So I don't agree. I think most athletes will tell you they worked their tails off and pushed their bodies to the limit.

And to add onto all of this...why hasn't there been a nation that is mostly black really great at soccer? (Unless you count Brazil I guess...) Why does say Uruguay has more success than Jamaica? Jamaica a country that is known for it's sprinters can't produce a messi-level talent?

I think it's because of the system. Argentina's system and training is just better. Passion for the sport doesn't even equal success. We see this with basketball too. China is one of the most passionate about the sport and they struggle to medal despite the pool of people they have to pick from.

I know people will say "It's because Asians are small on average..." but remember, the chinese team isn't lacking size. It's not like they start a 6'5 guy at Center. It's just because they don't have the same training and focus and know how when it comes to the sport.

This is why too despite USA's success they can't produce major soccer stars. They can't have a prodigy because that guy is likely playing basketball or football instead.

Also yes, people are forgetting that athleticism is more than running fast and jumping high.

Yeah, you need size I think everyone can agree with that.

One thing I always bring up in Athleticism vs Skill is when the Bulls decided to pick Tyrus Thomas over LMA. One player didn't really do much, he blocked a bunch of shots in college and had a good vertical and speed for his size...bust.

The other player demonstrated that he knew how to score and a nice mid range player. It's LMA who is a all-star player and now playing for the Spurs. Not even sure who Tyrus plays for now.

So in this ONE case, the more skilled player has had a better career.

How many guys in the NBA are super athletic? I honestly think NFL players are more athletic than Basketball players on average. This is considering ALL things. Speed, agility, flexibility, and strength. Stamina Basketball players have more of but still.

Are you saying that other races don't work as hard as blacks that's why they don't achieve as much in basketball as blacks?

I don't know if the average Joe Asian is or not less athletic than the average Joe black. But I would say he's smarter. :p j/k

Seriously, it's a lot more reasonable to believe that genetic affect physical attributes than intellectual attributes. Nobody would say that a medical research is racist if it shows that blacks or some race are more prone to some disease, or sexist if we say that men are generally stronger than women.

Why is it wrong to speculate that genetics has at least some factor in black people's success in basketball (and tracks for that matter)?

Agree that there is little variance in athleticism in average joe/average jose guys 5'8-6'1.

Then sports like mma, "ma", boxing where its broken down to specific weight classes, there's a diverse a field as anything. Thats where you see its about cultural ATTITUDE and training opportunity more than there is inherent gifts.

Perhaps it comes down to leg explosion bottom down ability vs top-up ability. Sports requiring arm and hand dexterity & quick reaction vs leg speed, power & agility. There isnt a stereotypically black trait that gives a black athlete a chance at being like Roger Clemens or Roger Federer. Clemens and Federer would be better athletes thanJoe Six-Pack but wouldnt be pro level basketballers

completely taking skill out of the equation, i've often had the theory that nfl wide receivers and cornerbacks are the best overall athletes in sports.

a lot people consider cristiano ronaldo the best "athlete" in soccer. i think there are at least 10 guys in the nfl more "explosive" than ronaldo.

i would like to see a more standardized test like this to compare soccer players and football players from a purely physical perspective

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/vSL-gPMPVXI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
like you said, when it comes to stamina, soccer players are on a completely different level than football players.

    Don't compare soccer to basketball.
Soccer players require a lower center of gravity (in other words being short).
They dribble and kick with the inside of their foot, which from a VERY young age they're taught to do because it's not a natural thing.
Race has very little to do with that sport, although the sth american poverty areas of brazil and argentina they see football as their ticket out of poverty.
Maybe there aren't many world class americans playing football (black or white), but there's certainly a good percentage of black and white players from the rest of the world playing the game whether it's sth america or europe. I'd say a higher % of blacks playing soccer than whites playing basketball.
