I havent driven in Houston in years. A couple months back, my brother visited and was b****ing up a storm about the roads. I rolled my eyes thinking he was being melodramatic. Last month I was down there and I could not believe how terrible the secondary roads have become...everywhere.
The stretch of road heading north on Westcott from the brick round-about until you get to I10 literally makes me cringe while driving on it.
Yup. First, you gotta watch for the morons who don't understand how to enter or exit the round-about, then you have to know which lane has what pothole while being tailgated. Freaking hate that road, and TC Jester going towards Washington isn't even a better alternative as it's full of pot holes and uneven "concrete" due to all of the construction the past 5 years. Inner loop roads are like 3rd world country roads. Raise property taxes to the max, patch up pot hole until pot hole resurfaces in 2 weeks. Awesome job Mayor!
Speaking of the Westcott roundabout, when I lived by that area a few years ago it wasn't uncommon to see someone in a head on collision with that giant boulder. People were probably coming off I-10 flying down like morons and forgot the brakes yet alone the Yield sign.
Richmond avenue from Wesleyan to the loop is pretty bad especially around the intersection with the rail. You will definitely lose a few years on your car and $$ if you use this path on a daily basis
There is an app for this. You can report potholes to the city of Houston's 311 (non-emergency hotline). I've reported various issues (traffic lights, stop signs, potholes, loitering, etc) to varying degrees of success. iphone: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/houston-311/id572912099?mt=8 Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.seeclickfix.houston311.app&hl=en
This is what happens when your city limits is over 600 square miles and then you have a giant ETJ buffer around that. Too much to take care off for one city. And if you haven't driven on Kirkwood between Westheimer and I-10, then you don't know what's up.
Dairy Ashford between I-10 and West Airport would like to have a word with you. The entire abomination that is Richmond avenue also wants to conference in.
Pretty much anywhere. Annise Porker is a pathetic mayor. If an issue isn't LGBT related it is simply not worthwhile for her. Can't wait till she's out of office.
Lyons Ave between 59 and 45 (by St Arnolds Brewery). It's a little shortcut I take to go around the bottleneck at Eastex and I-10 in the mornings. Several horrible potholes that you can't see until it's too late, and also 2 railroad crossings that are literally like driving over an entire railroad track. Allen Parkway is pretty bad, but it looks like they're fixing them as part of the revamp of Buffalo Bayou.
